    MP4000/5000/5001 Dirty Background.....Over Toning

Have Ricoh got to their "Final Solution" and given a fix on this yet?

Yes, new toner/dev unit/mag roller - still not really reliable though, especially a bad choice for quality-demanding customers

Please do not use Kartun drums in these machines! It makes them go crazy! Light copies, overtoning, dirty background - name it - it does it! We had one where it in 60k copies never changed the VSP/vsg because of it being a Katun drum. Switched back to the Ricoh drum and all the hassles went away!

I've had this with a MP4000. It's caused issues since day one, the customer makes lots of single sheet prints or copies never giving the machine a decent run. Much like yourself I followed the RTB's and used the modified toner. I still found the image density dropped rapidly and got lots of background, I found myself replacing drums and developer just after half it's life even with cleaning the mag roller at every service. I finaly resolved after adjusting the P pattern cycle SP 2210 001 & 002. I rebuilt the drum unit and replaced the developer set 001 to 5 and 002 to 10 I've not had any issues since and that was 5 months ago.
