    Option SD card's ricoh mpc5000

We just recently purchased a c5000 that didn't have any SD cards in the slot. As I pressed the function buttons each worked. Let it sit for two days and now when it power up goes into sc863-06 HDD or controller error code. Now the question here is does the D029 have embedded print/scan firmware on controller or is it on the blue option SD card. And what is needed when replacing the hard drive.
Sorry to ask but it seems the owner has lost his access to ricoh and as of today we cant login to tscweb.

Print/scan are built in, postscript would be an option on this model using an SD card. The SC code is a hard drive read error or possibly a controller. Unplug the HDD and boot it back up, if it comes to ready then you know the controller is ok. At that point then I would replace the hard drive (usually I attempt to intialize and partition a failed drive using my laptop and that works 90% of the time). These models are very susceptible to HDD corruption/failure if not shut down properly,ie adf closed, no paper in original tray, press on/off button on control panel and wait until it stops blinking, shut off main power.

    863
    HDD: Read error
The data stored in the HDD cannot be read correctly.

    • Defective controller

    1. Replace the HDD.
    2. Replace the controller.

Found this in the Global Knowledge Base, try it first......

SC863 and power cuts while printing

      [Symptom]
      1. SC863 occurs.
      2. The device cannot be used. The Start key remains red and neither Ready to copy nor Please wait is displayed.

      • SC863 is displayed.
      • The scanner application does not start.
      • The FAX application hangs at Starting.
      • Cannot enter SP mode.

      [Cause]
HDD data error (not a physical failure.)
      • The main power switch was turned off improperly.
      • The breaker was cut or some similar action was taken while the device was running.

      [Resolution]
      [Recovery Procedure 1]
      1. Remove the HDD and turn the device on.
      2. Perform SP5-832-004.
      3. Attach the HDD and turn the device on.

[Recovery Procedure 2] - The HDD data (such as the address book data) will be lost.

      1. Remove the FAX unit. (Remove only the interface. It is only necessary that the device cannot recognize the FAX features.)
      2. When the device is in SP mode, initialize the entire area of the HDD. (SP5-832-001)
      3. Turn the main power switch back on.
      4. Download fixed stamp data. (SP5-853-001)
      5. Turn off the power and reset the fax unit.

If the procedures above do not fix the problem, replace the HDD.

Thanks Teebee1234! this is exactly what I needed. I knew the c5501 was embedded but thought the c5000 controller was similar to the c4500 except for the dual drives. None of the other techs in shop could not remember, which meant driving out to a clients office to physically find out.
        Will update with final solution.

try formatting the "ridoc-interface" of the HDD only - it's quite likely that the machine is up and running afterwards without any data lost, so it's worth a shot

Performed procedure as teebee1234 pulled down from GKB was able to reach ready. Found the fax to be bad even after resetting default and initializing RAM.
