Customer called with sc452 error. I believe there was a paper jam prior to code possibly on lower right side. SM states paper transfer unit contact error. Is that referring to sensor in transfer roller unit. I know there was an sc452 error associated with transfer belt id sensor problem but the service manual on the MP C3500 does not appear to be indicating that. Please advise before I go to customer on Monday. Your help is very much appreciated.

I'm not aware of an SC452, maybe they meant SC542 (fuser warmup error). It maybe related to the paper jam, maybe not - but can only be reset by going into SP mode and turn the main power (red rocker switch at left front) off and then back on. Be prepared to possibly rebuild the fuser with new thermistors, tstats and upper/lower heat rollers.

It is definately an SC452 and not 542. As I mention it is listed in the SM for the MP C3500/4500 series. I was just hoping to get someone who had this code and what was the cause. Frank

OK, well your OP said it was an MP4500, so you actually meant MPC4500. That's a big difference. Open the front cover and the plate covering the pcu's and ITB, cheat the interlock and do an output check for the contact motor and observe if the color transfer rollers cam up and down. If not, remove the ITB and make sure it's not bound up, then observe the contact motor (inside at the rear) while you do an output check. If it works, put it all back together and see if it comes to ready. If you get the error again, it may be the contact sensor failed (detects the motor rotation). I believe that is part of the motor assy, which is removed from the rear of the machine. You could do an input check to the sensor and see if you get a change in state when the contact motor is running, that should be final proof.

I partially removed the paper transfer roller unit and reset rear spring. I also manually rotated the contact sensor motor. After that the machine started working so not sure if i stimulated dying motor transfer unit looked okay. Frank
