    auto-Reciving faxes behind PBX/PABX

    Hi,

We have a client who would like to recive faxes on his machine, we sold him a 2020 and set it up, it can send faxes, it can do on hook etc, but it wont ring when transfered to from an extension. I change 3-103-001 i set voltages, change switches in ram, and nothig , I'm stumped... So we conclude that the 2020 wont work behind a PBX. So we prepare a MP3350 because they really want to have the fax option. And now I try it behind another PBX, and it too wont ring...

Is this a problem with all Ricoh MF machines? we have a nashua 1305f in the office, and it works just fine with our PBX.
Is there a machine that wont make this kind of problem?

    Thanks in advance...

Of course the machines works behind a PABX. Perhaps the PABX is just misconfigured. The most imprtant thing you'll need to have as a diagnostic tool is a cheap telephone you can hook up to the line instead of the ricoh. Simply call the fax number with your cell and if the phone doesn't ring it's a proof that this is not a problem with the MFC either. Don't forget to restore the settings you've messed around with^^

In case the phone rings: You'll might have to modify the line chord that only the two middle wires of the RJ11 plugs are contacted with the plug of the other end.

99% of the fax issues are related to all sorts of things but not the fax(-options).

It's absolutely not a problem with Ricoh MF products because your Nashuatec is actually a Ricoh Aficio 1013F
Gift has made some excellent suggestions.
Also, as a test, you could simply plug the 'nashuatec' into the line that's giving you difficulty, and when it doesn't work, you'll have the proof for the client that it's an internal problem, and not the machine.

        As the others stated above.

If you don't have the line configured with the PABX correctly, then you will never receive a fax. You say that you are transferring a call from an extension to the fax unit. Alot easier just to dial the number which the fax is attached to in the first place and listen for a ring and an answer.

Something that is always worth trying is to unplug the fax from the line and then ring the number again. Sometimes customers will put multiple devices such as EFTPOS, alarm systems and so forth on the same line as the fax. This would generally mean that something else is picking up the line before the fax does.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

What brand of PBX? We're a Panasonic PBX dealer and a Kyocera-Copystar dealer.... no problems with MFPs behind PBXs here. I'd be glad to help you understand what configurations need to be in place for the PBX. Some basics: 1) make sure the port on the PBX is an analog port, not a digital or Voice Over IP port via a data network 2) There are some adjustments on the PBX and on the MFP that must be "strong" enough for some Ricoh MFP to answer properly; there's a college in our area that has had alot of problems with Ricoh fax options.

            Thanks for the replies,

Let me clarify, there is no direct line to the fax, there is only an extension, if you call their number, they have to transfer you to the fax. They had another fax, a little Panasonic that we are supposed to exchange for our MP, and it works fine, it rings and it answers, but 2020 didn't. Maybe I didn't connect to the right line when I tested at the office I'll try again.

Should I make some adjustments so that the fax auto answers when transferring from an extension(there is a different ring, and dial tone when transferring then when on a separate line)?

OK - you can adjust the number of "rings" until the MPC answeres, the default setting might be too high. You should also check wich RX mode is active - the machine wouldn't answere at all if manual RX is enabled (one has to push a button at the MPC then).
