SP8100 - Hanging on print command

I have received a SP8100 printer that is testing my sense of humor!

It boots OK and makes all the right sounds and actions until ready state, then the fun starts!

If you try and print ANYTHING, even a meter count, the DATA IN light comes on and the display reads PRINTING. The laser spins up and.... it waits, then spins down (without print engine starting up).

It will stay in that state, and nothing prints??

We have changed the following from a known working machine:
Controller
BICU
PSU
I/o Board

I am really out of answers here! Any ideas?

check if there is an SC code, update the firmware..

Thanks for the reply.

Forgot to mention that we updated the firmare, re the RTB about machine freezing, before changing the controller.

We also replaced the fusing unit and door switches out of desperation, but no luck

The machine does not have the hdd option, only 128mb mem (both controllers I used have the same setup).

Have you tried reloading the drivers, or checking for an updated driver or drivers?

I have not even tried printing from a pc. This is all happening from the device op panel! I cannot print meter count, or config page: all have the same result.

Is it possible to print out of the service menu (like SMC lists)? Have you swapped the PCB's including NV-Rams or did you run the tests with the NV-Rams of the faulty machine all the time? You might try a complete memory clear (after NV-Ram backup). It's also possible that there's some kind of weird restircion configured - try checking the web interface.

I have also thought along the restriction route, but (to me knowledge) there is nothing I have not changed (except for motors and clutches) that could still hold any restriction data, as I did straight swops of board for board, not removing nv-rams.

Have you tried swapping the laser unit? You say the poly mirror spins up, could be the machine isn't receiving the laser write start signal.

Swapping the laser unit seems reasonably in this state of desperation. Usually one would expect some kind of SC but who knows what special issue we are facing here. Any restricted config should also have been eliminated if you tried changing controller+nvram at the same time. Still - the symptome equals to what the machine does if it receives and drops a printjob due to a restriction (like missing user code).

Does the machine use a system SD card - I guess you swapped it together with the controller + NV-Ram and haven tried swapping one of these parts discrete before making the decision swapping all together? I just ask because sometimes settings are written across different components and might get kind of synced.

Sound's like you have RPCS driver installed and User Authentication is on, It's simply an authentication or ristriction,Delete and reload updated driver, try PCL6 or PCL5e,Hope it works.

Apparently not the issue in this case. Even though you swapped out a bunch of stuff, I would try the firmware update again with freshly downloaded firmware. Its easy and it may fix your problem. I do know there were several bugs corrected by firmware on this model, and I personally have had corrupt firmware downloads in the past.
