    Savin C9020 Printing issue

Learned something new thanks to Sandmanmac. Didnt know that the thread title ending in print would only show in printable view. Will delete the old thread as soon as I get on my laptop. Couldn't see the option to on my phone.

I've got a Savin C9020 that customer called in on yesterday. They said they replaced the switch and now it won't print. I went thinking it was going to be something simple but of course that didn't pan out. I'm thinking the nic card has went bad but just wanted to see if anybody else has run into this issue. The green light is flashing on the nic. Can't ping it at all. I hooked up to my laptop with a cross over cable. Same thing won't pull and IP or ping. I looked in the user settings to see if Savins have an option to restart the nic. I didn't see anything in user and the only thing I saw in the Service Manual was "Initialize Printer". Didn't really see a good explanation of what this did. I ordered the board through Hytec, was going to upgrade firmware but doesn't look I'll be able to to that do to unforeseen circumstances. Anybody ran into this and found a solution other than the board? Thanks for the help.

I'm always leery when a customer says the machine 'broke' after they did something 'unrelated'. If the green light is flashing quickly and random, that indicates network activity. A slow, steady blinking green usually indicates a physical problem, either with the cabling (reverse polarity) or the NIC itself. Also, double check the setting for the NIC function in SP5-985-1 (Device Setup) and make sure it is set to '1'. Also make sure that 'someone' didn't fiddle with any of the network settings in User Tools. Turning on 'IEEE802.IX auth' will kill the NIC.

I'm the same way about the it just broke calls.Pretty familiar with the customer so don't think it's anything the customer did but in this field it's amazing the things that they can get themselves into. The light is a slow steady blink. I didn't mention in the first post that I tried known good cables and tested the ports of the switch with my laptop and was able to get on their network. I will check those settings. I've been fiddling for with the network side of this for about a year now and am still amazed about about the amount of new things I learn everyday. I haven't seen a nic go out on one of these in a long time, one of the reasons I keep second guessing the diagnose. Thanks for the help, gotta start posting here more again. Feel bad when I haven't been on in awhile and come in to ask for help.

In a case like this, I would clear all the network setting with 5801-11. I think the 802.1x auth setting mentioned by teebee is worth loooking at. That has kicked my ass a couple of times.

Just an update on this issue. Had to replace the controller PWB, nic was bad. Also had the luxury of ordering the wrong board the first go round thanks to the lovely 3D catalog. I really hate that thing.
