Ricoh CL7300 Polygon Motor Issue

Hi guys!

I have a Ricoh Aficio CL7300 showing error code SC201. I have been told that this is a Polygon Motor issue and that I should first try disconnecting/reconnecting the cable before replacing the motor. Can someone please direct me to where the Polygon Motor and/or it's cables are located on this particular unit?

See attached scan of a parts catalogue. Polygon mirror motor pointed out by the red arrow. Make sure you know what are you trying to perform - any failure will cause a big problem. Part # AX060286 just in case you need it. To take it out is better to have step-by-step instruction - please check your PM.

Thanks Sakura! The detailed scan is excellant! But is there another photo that notes where I can gain access to this area? Probably won't attempt it myself if there's a possibility of "a big problem". But I would like to see the little bugger that's giving me a major headache. Thanks again!

Usually this request is dedicated to receive a "get bend" but yeah, the polygon motor is indeed located inside the laser unit... hard to figure out.

Obviously the polygon motor is inside the laser unit, but the laser unit is in a rather odd location compared to the newer units, and much more difficult to get out.

Even without knowledge of this model it's pretty easy to locate and access the laser unit on this one - we're not talking about the copier version of this engine.

If I remember correctly, you don't have to pull the LD unit to replace the mirror motor. I think just a metal plate on top, and maybe a fan duct to remove after the top cover is off.

It is very rare, that the Polygon Motor is defective. In most cases the driver Board is the issue (Position 2 on the Parts Lovation Drawing)
Its Number is: B180-5445 "Polygon Mirror Motor Board"

I've never had to replace a mirror motor in these, but they are getting to be about that age. I don't recall it being too difficult to get to the motor, it's just not where you expect the laser unit to be compared to all the new copy and print engines.

Thanks to everyone for your help! You all are telling me that it's not where I expect it to be, but I don't think anyone's actually told me where it is. P.S. Yes, I'm a girl that used to live in NJ.

Here is the approximate location, and you are lucky that it isn't a copier version. That would a lot of headache to your disassembly.

Pull off the top "exit tray" cover and it's right underneath. It takes a bit of doing to get the whole laser unit out because the wiring harnesses and ribbon cables for the laser boards, but if I remember correctly the mirror motor isn't hard.

Don't quote me on that - it's been a loooooooong time since I've been inside one of those.
