Just got another call from them.
She says its happening to both machines but only in copy mode. And after the docs have been fed it, it simply reads "copying". and nothing happens, they have to turn the machine off and back on.
I think I will put a HD in one and an ADF board in the other.
      Comments?

Has anyone just let the machine sit to see if it ever starts up or codes out? Would be interesting to know if it eventually codes out.

HDD good bet, bad NVRAM, bad memory chips, poor connections on BCU, controller or control panel. Bad drum unit/sensors.
Testing 1-2-3, testing, testing. Is this thing on?

If you completlyremove the java card on the mpc 4502, you won't be able to scan or print pdf' from the usb stick !! And yes I did let the machine sit in frozen state for like 10 minutes before rebooting.

After uninstalling the Extended features card, I removed it. It came up with an SC80 something. Address card error. ?? SO I put it back in and left it uninstalled.

on the mPC4502 I didn't get any sc's, just couldn't read or right PDF files to the USB stick. I'll try the MP4002 when I can. I always leave java uninstalled if it isn't needed.

              Bad/loose cable connection?
Sounds a little bit weird, but shake the maschine while making a copy.
(and/or check every cable connection )
e.g. the copier dont recognize the document feeder open/close?

Good news. I received a call from the office manager on another subject and I asked her about the machines and she said that she had no reports of the freezing anymore.
                So ADF boards.

Did the hard drive fix the other issue or was it definately only the ADF board?

Definitely the ADF board in both cases.

Re: Ricoh MP4002 freezing during copying

I have cursed myself. The customer just called and said both machines are freezing again. This cannot be machine related. It must be a signal coming in on the power line, even tho I have a quality line filter installed) or thru the air. Years ago I was working on Toshiba's and one of the local school system had a crap load of 8412's. suddenly at different times of the day, the exposure lamp would turn on and stay on until the t-fuse blew and often crack the exposure glass. Drove us crazy for awhile; Then the tech guys at Toshiba discovered that the school system had a Simplex Time clock system to keep all the school clocks in the county synced. When the syn signal went out on the power line it somehow affected the machine in that way. They were able to mod the logic board to solve. So I'm thinking it might be something like that. Any ideas tho are welcome.

So I got the lastest firmware and went back out there to install it. The office manager says its not happening as much and its always copying. I left a log sheet atop each copier with a request to list the date, time and function being used when the freezing occurs. Maybe I can collect some info this way.
