    MP161 scan to e-mail issue

Hi everyone. We installed an mp161 at an account that has a MPC3000 allready. Using the web image moniter I set up the scan to e-mail function on the 161 the same as the MPC3000. As soon as it finishes scanning the message" connection failed" comes up. In user tools when I test the connection for the smtp server it fails. I'm not real sharp on scan set up. Did I forget something or is this an issue thier IT man should resolve? I,m not sure what if anything on the 161 would prevent a connection. It prints fine. Thank you for any suggestions.

The settings should be identical. I would just double-check the settings - particularly the DNS (which is what I often forget during initial config), port numbers, and confirm the authentication info .
I've had some that inexplicably prefer using the actual IP address of the smtp server rather than the name, and vice versa, so you may look at that.
If all this checks out then, yes, I suppose it could be a firewall issue that their IT could look at

I just went through this today.
there are firmware updates for the NIB that need to be done.
you may as well update all the firmware while your there.

the port is the default 25 that is used on the other copier. The server is the name.......how do I get the IP address for that?

I'm not a dealer so don't have firmware updates available. Can I just exchange the NIB if I find one with a newer version of firmware?

If you have DNS entries in the network setup you won't need the IP, just the name of the server (i.e. mail.blah.blah). To get it's IP, just ping the server name from a command prompt.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

            Hit it.

Find out if they are using MS Exchange 2007 or 2010. If they are, then the below document will tell you what you need to do on the email server. You won't have to create a new connector unless the current machine is authenticating correctly.

              Email with Exchange 2010.pdf
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

And now you've spoiled it by adding "lol" at the end of that sentence.

Thanks everyone for the help, greatly appreciated. Things were simpler when the hardest call I had to do was restringing a broken corona wire!

                          use tracert command prompt
i.e. tracert smtp.coxnet.com - immediatelty it will give you the actual ip address of the smtp server

                            Try this.

Login to the Web Image Monitor as admin, select 'Configuration', select 'System Log' under 'Network'.

This should show what the problem is, look for a line that starts with [smtpc]

That line will show the error.

                            ** edit **

I have to edit a post, and redo the formatting for it to stick.
