    [Jamming] MPC 5501

Good morning everyone. Once again I have to ask for some advice. Spent a long time yesterday looking at a mpc5501 that turns the corner (front leading edge) over every 5 copies or so. This causes the paper to rinkle or occasionally jam. It is definitely happening after the image formation, as the image appears under the dog ear when folded back. The fuser unit has only done 9% of its life and it happens on both A3 and A4 paper from any tray, But not A4R as expected.
If anyone has any suggestions, they would be much appreciated. The machine although a year old is practically new and low mileage.50k+ color, 30k Bk.

Look forward to hearing from you
    Have a good day

Is there a Finisher on the machine?

If so it could be that the Bridge unit isnt securely fastened to the machine try removing the bridge unit to eliminate the finisher if it as one.

It does have a Finisher, so I will give that a go. Much appreciated

Let the paper jam at various locations. This way you can isolate the point in the paper path where the curling happens. Most of the times it happens after the Fusing Unit. Also check for moisture in the paper (use a fresh pack). If there's moisture in the paper it often jams in the Bridge Unit or Finisher.

Change the output to internal tray 1, see if the problem is still there.

there is a post (or a bulletin at Ricoh?) about the exit guides supplied with the finisher on some meduim sized machines (Fit between the machine exit and bridge unit, not always needed?)

Also a recent post mentioning the fuser pressure arms which can be uneven causing belt creasing etc.

Assuming that it happens on single-sided as well as duplex, check that the transfer roller is correctly seated (well, as well as it ever sits on these machines) and that the fuser guides are clean.

This is true, I've run into it several times when the setup crew neglected to install them. Attached is the parts blowout for the bridge unit on this model. Item 6 (qty 2) is what most likely has not been installed. They snap onto the plastic cover directly beneath the exit rollers that lead into the bridge unit.

Be careful trying to install these Bridge Unit Guides, mentioned in the last post. They are for the MP 4000 and MP 5000 B&W copiers. The BU3030 Bridge Unit is compatible with several models and not all reguire these guides.

Thanks for your input everyone. I returned to the machine today and the customer said the machine had been behaving since my last visit, but it did crease the A3 twice whilst I was there. I removed the finisher and bridge unit and it did crease on the one occasion. So I guess that discounts the bridge unit. The paper was bending upwards when it made the dog ear. So my guess is the it was happening in the exit unit. Whipped that out, but couldn't see anything untoward in there...... Anyway, it was working when I left. So holding thumbs

                  Thanks again

x2 on that had this with a couple of machines, luckily one machine next to the other had the guide the other did`nt swapped it over and dog-ears dissapeared. If it comes back definitely order this part,it seems when the pre install guys set the machines these guides get forgotten or thrown away
