    [Electrical] Ricoh MPC 5000 SC 582

    Have this error code SC 582 and was caused by the thermostat being open when customer decided to clean this area and themostat while hot !
    Has anyone managed to reset one of these thermostats which is allocated on th IH coil.

    Thanks in advance.

    Never got one to reset. Since the customer cleaned it , bill them for the IH coil and labor.

      You can reset them the same as any other thermostat. Freeze them and toss them against the wall to reste the bi-metal disc. Of course you remove the thermostat first. I have been told that they will pop at a slightly lower temp after being reset but have not personally seen this to be a problem.

        I would replace the IH-Coil Unit. Even if you could reset the thermostats they will not be reliable.

          That is probably sound advice. It is too much work to have to do over if the thermostat is indeed weakened. It is a pretty pricey part and in my opinion, a very poor design. I bet a ton of them get popped during misfeed removal. It needs some protective cage over it at the very least. Oh well, the engineers didn't ask me and they don't have to support their oversights.

              They are not reliable when new...bad design. when you buy an IH coil, it comes in packed like fine china to keep it from getting bumped and trashed riding a UPS truck.

              I just can't believe that they passed an engineers approval.

              They should have at the very least been designed with an easily replaced thermostat.

                  Yes the Induction Heater (IH) thermostat can be reset.

                  You basically have 3 options to reset them :
                  The quick rough-as-guts easy way.
                  The slow but ok long way.
                  The manufactures favorite: the expensive way.

                    It's easy to reset them with a little rod and a very little amount of hot glue. I had a work mate refurbishing a machine and caused both piles to trigger while wiping the area with a cloth. Usually you can easily threw a pile against the floor to reset them but the IH coil unit seems hard to disassemble (didn't try since my solution fixed it within a few minutes).

                      Some other methods I have used.

                      WARNING FOR FAST FIX ONLY, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !

                      ::MPC4000-5000 ::
                      Single center IH thermostat.
                      You can push a needle or pin under the side of IH thermostat metal face plate and pop it back out. You can bend a right angle on the pin if you require further lifting force in the center once the pin is inserted under the metal plate.

                      :: MPC2500-3500 ::
                      These two IH thermostats are bit trickier.
                      You need to force a needle or pin hole right through the metal plate slighty off-center from the middle of the thermostat metal plate and pop it back out. If you force the hole dead center the metal plate in the thermostat will no longer actuate as it should.

                      Gift has shown you a slower but safer method.

                        I've had trouble with them popping at lower temp in lamp style fusers, but not bad. Never had to reset one in an IH coil, but I suspect they would be less trouble.

                        In classic fusers full current drawn by the heat lamps passes through all the T-stats, but in IH fusers they disable the inverter when popped - there's a separate T-Fuse in the coil that is absolutely not resettable. With practically no current flowing through them there's no extra heat if the contacts arced or don't line up perfectly.

                        I'd be resetting these if at all possible just because it's such a booger to pull the harness through. Not to mention an IH coil is nasty expensive, though it contains about 2 lb of copper if you're into recycling.

                          I use good old ducktape! Cut a piece and stick it to the face of the thermister, a quick pull will do it. It's worked every time so far.

                              After removing this unit and trying to see the Markings/Ratings on the thermostat which there are none to match up a replacement
                              Tried the Duct tape plan back in July.

                              I just have learned something new, another use for Duct tape. Excellent fix and all good to date

                              Thanks for your help all.
