[Misc] Toner spotting on Ricoh Aficio CL7100

    Hi,

I have a ricoh aficio that has just started to put 2 very small dots of black toner onto every sheet printed. Have you any idea of what I need to clean in order to get rid of this please.

I have another complete machine that I can rob for parts if needbe.

    Thanks
    Chris

Measure the distance in between of those dots and if it equals the diameter of a drum in PCU then its a PCU replacement is on the way. 99,9% its a PCU discharge issue (when a high voltage cause a small "ding" on a drum or a physical damage - screwdriver, sharp objects etc). Seen a lot of this problems on all kinds of models from BW to multicolor.
0,1% that something may stuck on a drum (small piece of label etc) and it picks up a toner an applies it onto pages.
Personally, I would bet on drum damage.
    Good luck.

x 2 on the drum unit.
A nice thing about these machines is that all of the drums are interchangeable, so you can swap any, and all of the drums in and out regardless of 'colour'. So in the case you change out the black drum from your parts machine and the copies are worse, or there is a different issue, try another one

Hi and thanks for the help.

I am going to show my complete and utter ignorance on all things printer and ask - Which are the drum units?

Is it as I am looking at the front of the printer above the transfer belt there is a row of 4 pull out units that are labeled with the different colours? or am I missing something (again)

        Thanks again for your help
        Chris

Labeled as Yellow,Magenta,Cyan and black i guess from left to right in most Ricoh printers,as it's been said earlier by other seniors time to change the drum units, either its physical damage or you should be checking the clicks or meter on this device,

""I have another complete machine that I can rob for parts if needbe""

start interchanging the drum unit one by one with other machine, but be careful handling those drum units!

            Thanks a lot.

That makes sense as it did start with 3 spots and I cleaned the drums with the supplied brush and got it down to the 2 spots so I will swap out the black drum unit and take it from there.

You say that the drum are all the same but for instance what happens if I put a yellow drum into the black spot - wont the yellow toner bleed?

Thanks again for every ones help

I think what he meant to say was interchangeable as separate Drum, not a whole PCU,anyway i would rather go for a simply taking out the black PCU from other machine to keep it simple and time saving.

                OK,

I havent had time to change out a drum/pcu yet but I did have a close look at the print outs with the smudges/spots on them if you look closely at them you can see they look like a black dot with radiating lines like a cracked windscreen.

Would this type of spotting be caused by a damaged drum/pcu or could it still be dirt.

Either way I will swap the drum/pcu on Monday and take it from there.

                Cheers
                Chris

                      Well,

Just a quick update to say thank you to everyone. I located the drum unit this morning and swapped it over from my spare machine and tried it - An instant improvement and it now printing clear!!!

I had a good look at the drum I took out and I could see 2 tiny marks on it which I assume were the problem so Im not sure if it picked something up but its now working A1.

Thanks again for all your help and no doubt I will be back when something else goes wrong on it.

                      Thanks
                      Chris
