Ricoh Aficio 2238C spilling black toner

    hello everywon

i have a machine with a bit of a headache, it keeps spilling toner from the black dev unit onto the copies

thus far i have replaced & initialised the black dev unit & replaced the dev drive clutch & cleaned the sensors & connector (looks like a phone connection on back of dev unit). I changed from fuzzy toner supply to fixed (started at 5% worked down to 3%), but the darned thing keeps piling up toner just below the mag roller, which then splotches onto the prints - the only thing i haven't played with is bias

HEELLPP any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

G'day mate and welcome. Been a long time since I worked on one of these (thank god.) There is a modified toner supply pump (B1013356) to ensure toner is added correctly.
I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work. ~Thomas Edison

thanks heaps for the response jonezy

luckily i have both a 2238 & 2232 on the books, one client wanted their machine with a million prints on it re-commissioned, the other bought this problem machine second hand 12 mths ago

don't supose you happen to know the difference between the original pump and the modified one? and just thought i'd mention, the prints aren't overtoned, while the blacks are reasonably solid, there is no backgrouding at all

      thanks again !!

It could be that the inside of the toner pump has collapsed so its always adding toner ...or bad earth on drum pulling toner from dev unit

The toner dropping can be a problem on this and other Ricoh boxes.

          Here's my story....

First, I changed the black developer clutch....no difference.

Second, I changed the black toner pump...that's what made the difference....and it can be changed without removing the laser box, but it is a bit easier if you do...you still have to remove the gears on the back of the machine, but with a long screwdriver, you can remove the pump. It would be easier to thread in the "toner guide spring" with the laser box removed....

But then I found after a few hundred copies, I started to get some graying on the operator side of the sheet. I was using Precision Roller compatible toner. Fearing that I had not solved the problem, I tried some genuine Ricoh Black toner. After a few hundred copies, the graying on the operator side of the sheet when away. I now only use the genuine toner in my machine....

I hope this helps those who are having this problem.
