    HardCode Printer codes

    Hi All,

At my work, we have a bunch of Ricoh printers. When a user prints, they must enter their department code so we can track their printing. However, it pops up behind the other windows and often users will complain. Is there anyway to hardcode their department code based on their Active Directory profile? Or any other way?

If not, is there any way to make sure that the prompt for the code pops up as the top window?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can embed the departmental code into the driver so that a pop-up is not required, but this has flaws (hot-desking etc). You would probably need a copy of the printer driver for each department installed on the server and you could then roll this out to the PCs via their login script. In answer to your second question, speak to your IT support. My answer, other than that, would be "No."Thirdly, have you asked the supplier of the equipment for their input?Anyway, it sounds to me like you'd be better off with some sort of swipe card release system such as Equitrac or ELP-NX.Finally, get your shiny CD out that came with the machine and RTFM. No offense you understand, but as an end-user there are things that you should do and things that you should not; those which you should do are on that CD.

      Re: HardCode Printer codes

I have seen this issue with another brand of copier and it was always MS Office applications whereby the Department Code Pop-Up would come up behind the other apps.

There are two fixes for this one and you are right with the first.

The second is to set the MS apps like Word, Excel and so on to 'Run as Administrator'. Now this isn't something that you would do lightly as depending on your network, you could create a hole. But once this has been done once for the application, Windows marks that program to canstantly 'Run as Administrator'. On one site, this solved the issue as that site removed and then re-added print drivers on log off and log on so entering the Dept Codes directly into the driver wouldn't have worked.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.
