We have tried to set up a newly donated 2228C copier. We received no manuals. On the panel it give us an error message "please close the cover" with an error pointing to the left side or where the copies would come out of the machine. We have opened and closed each panel multiple times to try to eliminate the error. We have turned the power off, disconnected it from the power source. I have held the . and the # buttons down to reset the machine. Nothing works. Any suggestions. Thanks!!!

there are switches that the panels push when closed. On panels the plastic tab could be broken off. Look at each door and see where switches will be push and se if they are in place . -

You don't reset a Cover Open Message by resetting, like Copierman said, replace the push switches, 99.99% sure that solves it.Comment

Like i said, start with simple things first. Check panels to make sure tab isn't missing that would press on switch. There could be a duplex unit on left side has a metal plate on copier that push switch. Could be finisher that is not push against copier or missing metal plate that pushes switches or could be left cover. If you know where switch is try pushing on it.Comment
