    [Misc] MPC 4502 Email Scanning

Customer needs to email scan to port 587 using TLS. Is this possible? In User Tools, System Settings, File Transfer Tab, and SMTP Server, you can set SSL encryption to ON. Is TLS part of the SSL function or a separate protocol. And I've read that once SSL is enabled the copier will use Port 465. Is there any way (through Service Modes) to change the SSL port number from 465 to 587?

I'm almost positive that you're stuck with port 465 only. No SP to change, at least on earlier models, anyway. The GW+ machines (such as this one) could potentially be different, but I highly doubt it.

You can change the port # on the screen where you turn on ssl.

Are they running it through a exchange server?

As far as the documentation states, once SSL is enabled, it uses port 465 by default and can't be changed no matter what you put in the ports box.

It's a cloud based email service. TLS on port 587. From what I have read in the past hour, none of our machines (Ricoh) support TLS over SMTP.

I just checked and yes TLS is not supported and neither is Cloud scanning yet... They will be soon though they are in process.

Can't they just relay through their ISP?

As an example, we use Office365 for our mail and we set the SMTP server address as relay.plus.net (our ISP is Plusnet) as that accepts all mail from our IP addresses. That way you're just using the stock SMTP protocol on port 25.

                Does this make any sense?

Highly secure financial company and security concerns won't allow them to send emails through another server other than their hosted secure server. We contacted their email server hoster and were informed that we could connect to unsecure port 25 smtp but would only be able to send to email addresses in the company's domain. This was acceptable to the customer as they don't send outside their domain anyway. This defeats the transport security of their emails of course sending to port 25 and not to 587 with TLS enabled but it was a solution that they were comfortable with. Machine does NOT support TLS over SMTP. Ricoh needs to get on the ball with this as I have been running into this more and more as companies want more secure communication. I'm wondering if there is a firmware upgrade in the works that will address this?

Scan to folder then email it from there. That's a polite way of saying that it doesn't do it, nor will it.

                      Don't hold your breath.

Improvements like these normally don't occur until a new model release.

Just look at how long it took to get support for Gmail.

Yeah. Was my first suggestion to them. "We only want to scan to email!, our Konica Minolta does it!" (Then order another Konica) (I wish I could say that)
