    MPC3501 WIM address book issues

    G'day all,

Looking at an MPC3501 which does the following,

From WIM it is not possible to add or change any addresses, comes back with unexpected error. I can add/change from user tools. Have tried HDD reformat, updated to latest firmware. Tried 5-846-050 and restored address book, also tried 5-801-011 and reconfigured network. All has proven to be pointless.

Anyone came up against this problem?

Fax kit was the cause of the issue. Funnily enough, not the first thing I checked.

I see address book errors about once per day on different models... would you think the same solution would work for MP 171's and up? Ricoh engineering have told me that it's an issue with a firmware tied to the hard drive... I'm not very confident that their explanation is valid, but the issues get resolved 40% of the time.

      Feedback would be appreciated.

I'm not sure mate. To be honest with you, tech support were out of ideas on this one. The last thing they suggested to me was memory all clear then input the SP's manually. I have never seen memory all clear fix anything, so I shit canned that idea for the time being.
It really was just a lucky find, sometimes ya gotta stop talking to IT nerds telling you to reset this and that and just pull out the screw driver and see how much of the machine you can pull out before it makes a difference. Obviously optional accessories are the easiest and the machine will run without them. Hence I removed the finisher, bridge, ADF connector, pulled the controller to check NVRAM, need to remove FCU to get to NVRAM, then started reassembly, eureka, she came to life. Then died again with the fax re installed.
As for the MP171's and such, I don't think they have a HDD do they? Maybe the SPF does?? Either way, I believe the problem lies with the controller board.

And one last thing, are you talking about SC991's showing up on the SMC report? If so, that wasn't my fault this time.
