2020D - Gap between hot and pressure roller??

    Hey all,

Having this issue with a 2020D - there is a small gap on the left hand side of the fuser between the hot and pressure rollers.

I have replaced both rollers and checked the springs on the pressure roller and they seem fine. Its only on one side as both rollers sit flush on the right hand side.

Help, weird one. It's almost like the fusing unit casing has warped!

Check the bushings for the pressure roller, they have a tendency to wear in strange ways. Also make sure that the aluminum lamp cover hasn't gotten bent as this will also give you a gap or a poorly aligned unit.

+1 for pressure roller bushing. Seen these wear out on one end only resulting in little or no pressure on one side of the fuser.

Make sure the hot roller bearing on the rear has not slipped inward. The only thing that keeps that from happening is a plastic extrusion on the bottom of the case which breaks off easily. If it is broken, you can use a B079 bearing that has a collar on it to hold it in place. You can also use a long screw for the ground strap on the top of the stripper assembly to hold the bearing in place. They both work fine, as changing out the lower fuser casing is a pain.

I think you are thinking of the fuser found in the 1022 and onward. The 2020D is more akin to the 1018 style but with dual lamps and thermisters.

Are the Bearings posistioned correctly, these can pop out leading to gaps.

also make sure the lower frame aint broken

Weirdly enough it was one of the plastic bushings that the pressure roller sits in that had melted!

First time I have seen that one.

I had a feeling it was something to do with the frame, as when that piece is gone the bushing/bearings slip of causing this issue.

Im glad you have fixed it and learned from it. it will save you time in the future.

Wasn't it the pressure roller bushings as mentioned above, or am I going mad?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                    Hit it.

I would like to say "as a hatter", but you're right. First 2 replies methinks.

Aye, I got my models confused. Not the first time and probably not the last.
