mp6001 doesn't see the fax kit

    Hi all,

I have a mp6001 that doesn't see the installed fax kit. What else that is strange is that the machine will allow you to web in to WIM and see the address book, but if you try to make changes to entries in the address book it says " an unexpected error has occurred ". If you remove the fax kit then the problem with the WIM is corrected. I have changed all the components in the fax kit except the memory ( it's on back order ), the controller board, nvram, hdd, and print\scan sd card. All on advise from Ricoh tech support with no resolution. Has anyone seen or heard of something like this? I really can't see a memory stick causing this, but who knows. Any advise appreciated. TIA

Has the fax kit PCB battery jumper been set to "on" ?

I wish I could help you man, I had exactly the same fault on an MPC3501 a few weeks ago. Must be something common among the XX01 models and the FCU. I never got to solve the issue as the customer never used the fax, so I simply removed it. Their IT was trying to add new addresses which caused the original call out. Good luck with it, I'm going to go back through my notes now.

I had a simliar fault about 9 months ago. The machine was installed from new and was exchanged with the existing MP2000.
I copied the address book from the MP2000 onto the MPC3501 and the machine returned with "unknown error on the display".

Two or three weeks later: I end up formatting the hard drive and re-initialising the address book (5846-47?) , then the old address book transferred to the MPC3501 all ok. So far todate I haven't had any address book or fax issues with this machine.

It might be worth trying to format the HDD and reset the NCU and address book, it may jog something in the NVRAM and see the fax board. I have seen static electricity take fax boards out completely on more than one occassion.

Thanks, but I did all that when I replaced the HDD and the NVRAM.

I appreciate it. This customer has not used the fax since install a year ago, but now wants to use it. I'm out of ideas.

Could be the wrong fax unit was installed originally.

Should be fx type9001 I would remove it and check that its not a MP6000 fax unit.

Hmmmm , I got the part numbers from Ricoh Tech Support. I'll check into that. Thanks for the suggestion.
