[Error Code] Ricoh CL4000DN HDD Hard Disk Drive Questions

Ricoh CL4000DN HDD Hard Disk Drive.
Manual indicates HDD is Type 4000 and holds 40GB. Companies are still asking $200-$300 for these, which should get 100x the capacity (3-4 Terabytes) now.
40 GB drive should be about $10 at my local Goodwill if I know what to buy.
Is there a generic that will work instead?
Or do you know OEM MFG and part number of the drives (I don't think Ricoh is in the HDD business)?

    Thanks,
    John

This threads a little old but I thought I'd weigh in just in case you haven't solved the issue. I only deal with the copier side of things but all of those Ricoh boxes use standard Ide or Sata drives (depending on the age). I can't imagine the printer division being any different. It's easy enough to tell by removing it and having a look

Thanks for the information. I was hoping to find an exact brand and model number as it increases the likelihood it will work. But I will look at it and perhaps try an experiment. Probably IDE and I have some old ones somewhere.
      Thank you,
      John

Model and brands don't make a difference when it comes to these. There's simply nothing special about them - except it must be at least the minimum size that's in the machine.(Ie: 40Gb), but the maximum is not an issue. I've replaced 40Gb with up to 250Gb without issue.

Ditto what sandmanmac said, the knock from ricoh on the bigger drives is the power required (current) for the new drives can cause board failure. Never had it happen. the other part is the mounting hard ware.

Thank you both - that's the kind of practical advice I can put to use.
I will have to look in my box of old disk drives for something that will fit.
            Thanks again.
