[Misc] copier prints from tray2 when when tray 1 is taken out

    hello friends,
would like your help on this i found an mp 2000 at a client with tray2 stack then i solved the problem but unfornately i could only use tray 2 if i took out tray 1 otherwise it would make noise and cause a jam with no paper coming out
your help will be appreciated to me this is a strange feeling cause intially i thought the clutches were dead or dirty but i cleaned them but couldnt solve anything.
thanks for your help in advance

Make sure all the paper size switches are in good shape. I'm a Lanier tech and don't have the model equivalent for the MP2000 available right now, but some of the machines in the 20 copy per minute range that I work on have a paper size switch behind the paper drawer that got knocked off the bracket. As the automatic paper size detection didn't work any more, someone would set the correct size in "User Tools". causing the display to show the correct size, but the automatic tray lift would not work right causing misfeeds.

Make sure the end fence is right up against the paper.

IowaTech may be onto something. Check the switches on the right front side of the frame - there should be 3 white pins of the same length. Check what papersize is selected on the green dial and see if it corresponds with what the machine displays BEFORE you try and make a copy. Also check that the white part at the rear of the tray (1) is not broken or missing. You could also test tray 1 in the second slot to see if there is a mechanical issue on the tray. Tray 2 will not fit in slot 1 because of a whit cylidrical protrusion at the back of the tray, which you will see when you look carefully. This can be removed, and the tray will fit afterwards. This way you can confirm if the problem is on the frame or the tray. Just remember to replace the white plastic bit, and the return the trays to their correct slots afterwards!

Also check that the paper guides (black plastic parts with see-thru mylars) are all in place and nothing is broken - especially on the first tray.

BTW do you know if the friction pad on the first tray is fitted correctly? Some of those machines had a mylar stuck next to the friction pad and if it got caught under the friction pad it caused the pad not to be able to move and this in turn caused the most aweful noise when the machine tries to feed paper.

The paper height sensor for tray 1 as been broken off in such a way that tray one always thinks its got paper in when its empty

edit: also check the drive gear on the rear of the tray that drives the feed roller.

Hope you gave a rep boost to Iowatech, because that's EXACTLY what he suggested in your first reply
