The D029 2256 Black type drum will fit into the black socket on the either the 4501/5501 - 4502/5502 machines. There is no modding required but you must keep the original face plate form the one you replace and fit to the D029 2256 drum.

OK Total confusion from the cheat sheet!

For model C4502 the sheet says modify the C4502 black PCU D1442250 & remove the stud in the color PCU cavity.

The extended wax bar frame on the black PCU will not permit it to fit in the color cavities. Nor will the wax bar assy from a color PCU bolt up to the black PCU.

      What am I not understanding?

Hi guguys I came across this thread which had been amusing and interesting :0)

I have a few MPC 7500 that I want to replace but want something more reliable and not needing a vac out every 20k or so. I have been looking at the mpc 5502 models and wanted to know how reliable they are and how often do you change the drum units etc. I will ask on average about 10-15k a month out of the machine just from the trays on normal paper.

          Any advice would be grateful

          Tim.

Drums are going well over yield on these. You should be fine with the mpc5502 in place of a mpc7500 running 10 to 15k, I have been thinking the same for a customer on a craptastic c6501 but they are stuck on a lease. Check the attached product support guide. 50k/month max which means only a few months a year not necessarily consecutive.

The 5503 is much better for one the customer cant fxck up the fuser as its locked in the machine and the PTR assy is unbreakable and the W Toner is now a consumable part I have 2 7501s in the Field and would be more than happy if we could replace them both with 4 3503s

                Hi Bantam

Why not replace the two 7501's with two 5503's and I have been told by a tech friend of mine that the 5503 is not as solid as the 5502.

If you look at the column that says color pcu it says to use the D0292256 drum and do the mods to that drum. The column under black pcu just gives the number for the black pcu to use in that model. Hope that helps.

the 2042 drums work in 2800 3300 as colors no wire swapping necessary actually right across the board on there...up to 5501s I have not tried the 02 series yet

Keep in mind that the MPC4501 and 4502 are far better pcu's than all the previous ones!

Why the hell is everyone mucking around with modifying wiring harnesses and the like....

You do realize the SPC830 color kit is a straight fit into both the 01 and 02 series of device...

No modifying TD sensors, wiring harnesses, filing plastic, they are direct fit with NO modification required

For the 01 you cut the clip off the back, for the 02 you either break the clip off the front or just swap the original cover over

Done and dusted all 3 colors in 1 shot

Use the original K PCU and your good to go

But the price of these drums is the same as the price for a 4501 drum :S

Your all going to burn in copier hell for doing drum converts (myself included).

It's kind of a sore subject at Ricoh, one of the trainers told me it was a sack-able offence if one of their own guys gets caught doing it.

RICOH techs here in Australia fit SPC830/820 units to a whole range of machines....these are RICOH's own techs...not just dealer techs.
RICOH knows about it and actively encourages it...
A few years back RICOH did a study of their dealers to try to work out how the dealers were running at a profit compared to RICOH....they worked out it was due to the modding of printer units....so
NOW they actively encourage their own techs to do the same.
