If all network settings and folder properties are correct, check for firewalls and anti-virus software. What's the OS you're using?

      No doubt a rights issue.

Again, which OS are you scanning to? You need to make sure that you have network rights and NTFS rights, assuming the OS is NT based.

Also, while the machine needs to pass the connection test, it ONLY tests for read access, not write. (A lot of folks get tripped up by that - I know I did at first.)

When you scan, does the memory percentage drop from 100% and then go back to 100%? If so, how long does this take?

What operating system is the PC using?

Do you get an error on the copier's screen?

First off, a com. test is a ping. That's all. Its rather useless. I guess it at least says that you pointed it in the right direction?
There could be a few things happening, but its easy to narrow down.
The big question: Are you getting an error after scanning?
If yes, your permissions are set up wrong.
If no, you have a firewall causing issues.

Turn off all antivirus and firewalls.
Browse to the folder from the copier itself.
It will be a lot of button pushing, but it will verify connection to folder.
Make sure shared folder has read and write permissions for EVERYONE.
Turn on firewalls and antivirus one at a time to find the blockage.

            KISS it.

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

                "Why", you ask?
You honestly don't think that the OS is something that makes a difference when discussing a "networking" issue"? It's probably the first thing you should have mentioned.
While we're at it....why not provide an update as to whether any of the very generous advice has solve the problem?

Every operating system uses a specific version of a protocol. In the case of Windows 7 you're using NTLM2 for sending the authentication information from the MFP to the share drive PC. This uses a higher version of encryption than XP or Windows 2000. A Mac uses a slightly different form of SMB, especially the newest OS versions of 10.7 and 10.8. All of these things can play into how well you're able to set up scanning. There's more to scanning than just setting up a copier.

                        You and me both.

I've had it up to my ears in Windows 7 SMB scanning issues.

You let the customer know that you disabled a security feature on their machine, right?

Oh I'm sure he just disabled the firewall and ran!

DISABLING FIREWALL SHOULD ONLY BE A TEMP FIX FOR TROUBLESHOOTING.

I believe on windows 7, the smb protocol now uses port 445 tcp, instead of earlier OS's which mainly used port 139.

Rules can be added to windows 7 firewall by doing this:

Open Control Panel, click System and Security, and then click Windows Firewall.
In the left pane, click Advanced settings, and in the console tree, click Inbound Rules.
Action Pane, click New Rule, Select Port, Next, choose TCP, enter 445 in the box below.

Also some machines require firmware updates to scan to win7.
