[Misc] Ricoh 3245C - User codes not saved

Need some help, when users input their indivudal user codes into the default printer driver (via control, printer) for the ricoh it is not saved. It is not saved on any application either, so the user needs to input this each time. the client machines are vista and the server is sbs 2003.

Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?

    Thanks

You need to install the driver on the individual workstations and input the code there. Dont install on the server as a share.

Also, I don't think the PCL driver saves the code, but the RPCS driver does

If you install the code in Printer preferences> valid access, it will store the code.

Dammit! Now there's something I somehow managed to miss on a few occasions.
At least it didn't happen too often, since most clients don't want the code saved because it kind of defeats the whole purpose of the authentication imo, since anyone can simply check the printer properties and see the code, whereas the RPCS driver hides it once it's saved.

You could just tell them to stop being lazy and just input the user code when they print. After all, it is for security and print counting and shouldn't really be saved?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                Hit it.

Yes thats what I wanted to do originally but I couldn't find a way of turning this on apart from user authentication which the user has to enter a username also.

Re: Ricoh 3245C - User codes not saved

I just tested on my laptop with PCL 5c driver, rebooted and the codes are still inside the valid access tab. However, you must input the user code by going through the START=> CONTROL PANELS => Printers and Faxes => right click on the printer driver and select "PRINTING PREFERENCES" and input the code. In this way, user codes will be saved on the PCL driver. If the customer is inputting while using the print and printing preferences, it will not get saved.

FYI, the different between PCL and RPCS is that once the user code is input on the RPCS driver it's will stick to that computer for life. The only way to change the user code is by deleting it and re-installing RPCS driver again.

thats interesting. I've tried the RPCS which works fine but I guess if its tied to the computer rather then the user profile this is going to cause issues if people are hotdesking.
I didn't exactly access the printing preferences in the same way you did - instead control panel -> right click properties -> printing preferences but this didn't stay

This is an independent driver install on my laptop. I assumed you installed one driver on the server and shared to the clients. I hope you gave proper permission.

Yes thats how it was setup up (everyone has full permissions). Should I not be sharing like the post above shared. This is causing me headache people are complaining they can't print. Think might have to take off the codes until I figure this out...

An alternative way is I would recommend you to use one of the Ricoh's printing solutions such as Equitrax or Print Director for tracking and accounting purposes.
