    SC670-00 on a MPC5502

    Hey all,

    I have a MPC5502 in the field which I am getting a SC670-00

Now I replaced the BCU first with no success

I then replaced the controller with no success

The only thing left I think to do is the IPU as the code relates to a communication error between the BCU and controller, and the IPU sits between them.

    Has anyone had this before

    Thanks

    By the book it is

    Engine start up error
The BCU fails to respond within the prescribed time when the machine is turned on.
Connections between BCU and controller board are loose, disconnected, or damaged.
    1. Replace the BCU
    2. Replace the controller board
but from my experience it sounds like a HDD failure. Very common on new models. Have you tried to disconnect HDD and see what happens after? Check it out at least and if it doesn't give you a trouble then replace HDD. I would bet $10 it's HDD ))

The manual says everything is a BCU problem; however, it usually isn't. Double check all connections are seated properly by reseating them.

I agree with Sakura. Have a look at the HDD. You will be surprised! Disconnect HDD and switch machine on. If code is gone then its definetly HDD.

I should have mentioned the HDD was the first thing I disconnected

          It did not resolve anything

If HDD, BICU etc didn't resolve an issue than check out all harnesses and cables. Could be a pinched cable. The worst problem possible - guess, guess, guess...

I wonder if the EEPROM is bent after replacing the controller or he missed one eeprom ... I did that before...

Normally a pinched cable will cause a no-power condition or PSU fuse might pop. I think it's probably the EEPROM on the BCU / controller are defective.

There is no EEPROM on the controller

I most likely am wrong but doesn't the controller have it's own nvram on it?
A little board with a cmos battery on it?
I've had numerous failures with those recently.

Well, IPU was done today with no success

                      Last 2 things to do

NVRAM on controller board first and if that fails

                      EEPROM on BCU

Otherwise if those don't fix it, it's out the window you go....

Well after replacing every board in the machine, nothing seemed to fix this issue.

Anyway after disconnecting everything 1 by 1 off the device, it ended up being the operation panel taking down the machine

Can't remember if it's related or not, but does it have an software running on it, ie GlobalScan, PCC. Could be the Java card is corrupt.
