    3045 jamcode 17 relay sensor 1

jam code 17= relay sensor 1

i have only seen it jam when duplex. simplex is ok.
paper just seems to stop half way through the exit rollers and half into the bridge unit. sometimes the first copy comes through fine.
i removed the bridge unit, swapped the interchange unit and duplex unit. all rollers cleaned.
fuser unit has been rebuilt with brand new parts. fuser exit sensor and exit sensor have been replaced with no effect

the sticky pads inside the interchange unit have been removed although the solenoid wasnt sticking anyway.

paper jams half way out of the internal tray. sometimes it comes through fine but most of the time it stops halfway through the interchange unit

any one out there that can help me please

The rest of this might be nonsense, but this is important (to me at least): if you haven't repositioned and taped up the two wire harness on the interchange unit that goes over the exit roller shaft, all manner of wrong things will happen (the insulation on the wires gets worn off and then they somewhat intermittently short the five volt supply to the shaft). All older 35 and 45 cpm black and white machines from Ricoh will need this done in the fullness of time.
On the other hand, might be a bad clutch in there somewhere. I'm not sure which one that would be, but if you look at any of the clutches and see reddish or brownish colored stuff on them, that would indicate that clutch is probably done and needs to be replaced. (I've tried to fix them, but that turned out to be a fools errand).
When you removed the sticky pads, you did clean off every last bit of their adhesive, too, right? (sorry)
This is probably not the problem, but when you swapped the interchange unit, the gates that direct the paper to either the exit or the duplex unit were in good shape? No broken fins or burrs?
    Anyway, hope that helps

I haven't tried taping up the interchange wires yet. The interchange unit that I replaced with is in good nick with a new exit sensor.

How many sticky pads you scraped off the interchange unit? there should be 4 pads if I remembered it correctly. Also, check the tension spring on the solenoid at the operator side of the interchange unit. I had one machine where the customer popped it out of position.

          :: Duplexer issues::

I've had duplex switch back sensor in the top of the duplex unit slighly ajar (unplugged from the factory).

I've had duplex connection plug ajar slightly into the MFD socket causing no registration on second side out of duplexer.

Dirty pre-registration sensor at the bottom near the duplexer exit rollers.

there are 3 sticky pads on the interchange unit and all three are removed. the spring is still present.

i have checked the duplex main connector and its ok. i will have to check the duplex switch and sensors.

this machine also has an finisher sr 790. and this is what i found on the sr790 firmware release note.
            Symptom corrected:
After Paper Jam 62 occur at first time, Paper Jam 17 occur continually at registration roller and BridgeTransport when AP-C2d (D029) is installed with
            SR790

i tried updating the firmware but the sr790 doesnt show up on the screen. other firmwares like sytem and controller do show on screen.

the old firmware version is B4085161 and the updated is B4085163. the current firmware is 2 firmwares behind. maybe updating the finisher firmware might solve my problem?

in order to update the finisher firmware is there something else i need to update??

finisher was connected and working when sd card was inserted in slot 3.

The firmware on these finishers is done via EPROM, and that fault only occurs on MPC5000 and MP5000

agreed .... Deb is an expert on this jam code with the SR790... you have to order a new EEPROM from Ricoh. The firmware is hard coded to the EEPROM.

did you run the job without the finisher to see if it has the same jam code? because it sounds like you have a clutch issue.

It still jams without the finisher but the bridge unit is still connected.

                    take the bridge unit out
                    ,does it jam too?
