    Disabling color on MP C4500

Hi all, I just got a request from a client to disable color copying and printing. She didnt want to start using codes...just wants color unavailable. Can this be done? Thanks for any info.

Turn on user codes for color only, leaving black free. The machine will happily spit out black prints and copies, and ask for a user code everytime someone chooses color.

Thank you, that sounds like what they needed. I take it this is done in user tools, assigning a user code?

This is from memory, so take it with a grain of salt, but I believe you just need to enable user codes and then tell the machine what you want to control (basically everything with color). I think you don't need to create any user code, as you say nobody will be using color.

This should work, but even if it doesn't, it's worth trying.

        Keep us posted.

She can always 'downgrade' to a B&W machine. Otherwise, for limiting B&W printing, just install a B&W driver from another similar model. Or:

Go to User Tools -> System Settings -> Administrator Tools -> User Authentication Management -> User Code Auth. -> Enable restricting colour copying and printing buttons.
Don't assign any user codes, if the customer doesn't want to use them then don't create them. When selecting colour the users will be asked for a code, but none will exist. Also, I would recommend turning on Administrator Authentication Management, and creating a user code for that, so no one can undo the changes you just made.
