Hi all, I just got a request from a client to disable color copying and printing. She didnt want to start using codes...just wants color unavailable. Can this be done? Thanks for any info.

Turn on user codes for color only, leaving black free. The machine will happily spit out black prints and copies, and ask for a user code everytime someone chooses color.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

Thank you, that sounds like what they needed. I take it this is done in user tools, assigning a user code?Comment

This should work, but even if it doesn't, it's worth trying.

Re: Disabling color on MP C4500
She can always 'downgrade' to a B&W machine.Otherwise, for limiting B&W printing, just install a B&W driver from another similar model. Or:
Go to User Tools -> System Settings -> Administrator Tools -> User Authentication Management -> User Code Auth. -> Enable restricting colour copying and printing buttons.
Don't assign any user codes, if the customer doesn't want to use them then don't create them. When selecting colour the users will be asked for a code, but none will exist. Also, I would recommend turning on Administrator Authentication Management, and creating a user code for that, so no one can undo the changes you just made.
