    Aficio MP C3500 - Intermittent SC681

I have this machine in my shop that I'm hesitant to put out in the filed because after printing or copying, a dialog box that I had never seen until now, intermittently pops up saying "RESTART REQUIRED. Press 'restart' after the current operation finishes" (or something similar).
There is no SC displayed, but it always logs SC681- xxx (the 'xxx' is any of the following: 121,123,141) I have no idea what the last 3 digits represent. I've gone through the GG, and tried some of the things listed. I'm thinking that most of the issues discussed there like RFID /IOB/ toner cartridges, etc. would be related to the machine actually throwing up the SC code on the screen, which never happens. Am I wrong?
I initially only saw it on the very first use after power up. Then, after a restart, it never seemed to happen again, but just now, I had been using it, and it happened after a single colour copy, after many other pages had been output prior to that.
It's tough to nail down any sort of pattern, as I only use the machine from time to time at my shop, and it only happens very intermittently (which drives me nuts!)

    I appreciate any input.

The firmware has just been done, and I also did do a HDD format - both in the copier and directly connected to a PC, but I suppose there could be some sort of `glitch`with the HDD that might cause the issue? There`s definitely no harm in trying another pair of drives. I`ll try that this week and see if anything changes.
      Thanks

Thanks, but like a said, I did the suggested things in the GG other than board replacement. Again, the interesting /strange thing to me, is that the SC code is not displayed.

            Hi sandman.

Your last digit actually tells you which toner is the culprit. **1 is Black **2 is Magenta **3 is Cyan and **4 is Yellow. Also check the condition of your harness from RFID to BCU and also check your ground connection on your ITB unit. Hope that helps.

              Hi there.
Thanks. I knew that there was a number identifier for a cartridge issue, but I expected it would display 001, 002, etc., for that? You're saying that 121, 141 would be indicators of a Black cartridge issue, for example?

Very generous Paul, but I'm good there. Also thanks to the "spaceman" for getting me pointed in the right direction.
It occurred to me that the machine also seemed to be taking an extra 15-20 seconds to come to ready, so I decided the quickest/ easiest solution to try first, would be to re-flash the firmware. The machine now comes to ready must more quickly, and after a pretty good day of running it whenever I passed by, powering it off/on, print, scan, etc. The issue has not come back.
It seems that the system firmware I had initially installed, may have had a 'glitch'. I've not had that happen before.

Hi. Yes thats exactly what it means. But what i love about these machines, lets say for example that it indicates a black faulty cartridge and you replace the toner, it will most probably escalate to the next one! Have a look at RTB 222072. It does'nt say much but it will help. Hope it helps!

Thanks for clarifying. I'd love to have a look at that RTB, but unfortunately I don't have access to the website.
For now at least, the problem seems to be resolved.

Thanks Ruben! That does explain the codes at least. No mention of firmware issues for this error anywhere though, which ended up being the culprit in my case .

I've had the ribbon cable that runs underneath the board panel cause this sc code on this model before.
