    MPC 7501 developer change

I have one D082 in the field that needs a cyan dev change. The procedure calls for a pcu stand, a jig and a coupler. These appear to be missing from the machine. Will I be able to do a dev change without these parts?

The drum could be damaged when you don't use it. Without it the drum contacts the surface which you place it on. Without the PCU-Stand be carefull not to damage the drum. Place the PCU carefully on a dry and clean surface. The metal jig and coupler are used to remove old developer from the machine.

You definitely should use the manual when replacing developer. You should place the empty PCU-unit in the machine and let the machine detect that the DV-Unit is empty. If the machine decides that it's empty you can let the machine fill the unit with developer and then initialise the developer.

    A very labour intensive machine...

Thanks for the reply, Eric, but I need a definitive answer. Can I do a developer change without those parts? I need to let my customer know when I'm coming back.

The metal jig must be used to remove the developer from the unit. If you don't use it the shafts in the DV-Unit will not be aligned when you place the unit back in the machine.

The PCU-Stand is only used to protect the drum. If you're carefull then you can do without it.

I never use it either, however it should be attached with a magnetic bracket on the underside of the machine, look under the base plate of the machine from the front.

To be honest the fact that you are changing the C dev tells me you have severe toner dumping from this PCU, watch out for the others - they all tend to do this. Also the setup of these devs is fraught with dramas if not done exactly right FIRST TIME. Good Luck!
