    [Error Code] Charge Roller AF1018/2018/2020

Hi Guys... Just a simple question. I have been installing charge rollers on these machines for well over 6 - 7 years now with no issues. I recently realised that the 2 ends of the charge roller are different, one has more of a pointed rubber end than the other. My question is..

1] does this have to be fitted on in a specific direction?

2] why do the edges of the drums get scraped (which result in an SC302 code occurrence)

Your views will, as usual, be greatly appreciated.

    thanks.

    I hear you!

I normally fit them so that the "slanted" side faces where the drive gears are. Have not had hassles at all.

Parts catalog shows the "pointy" end toward the front of the pcu. Thats how I install them.

        Hi +ve charge

By scraped do you mean that the opc coating gets worn off? Not sure, but like you said it happens on the ends only, which makes me think that it could be arcing at the ends of the charge roller, or it is because the edges have sharp ends maybe?

Hi Polarbear.... Appreciate yr efforts. Yes the OPC coating gets scraped off and the resultant arching causes the SC302 code. That was why i started wondering if there was a direction in which the charge roller needs to be installed. Wish we had more responses then i'd be able to get a better idea.
What mikadonovan mentions is also correct, in the parts catalog it sure seems like the pointy edge is facing the front of the PCU. But the parts diagram is angled and the other end is not visible....

A friend of mine maintains mp2500s which use a similar pcu and he seems to think that there is a mylar issue with these that cause the wear and arcing on the drum for as soon as he changes the drum and blade the drum life is dramatically less and there is also the wear that you talk about.

I will chat to him again and see if he has made any progress on the matter.
