MP301 - SC878 after HDD kit install - Help!!

I colleague of mine yesterday installed a HDD upgrade kit on a brand new MP301SPF.

He restarted the machine and formatted the HDD.

Upon the second restart, SC-878 popped up - and does not want to leave! Even after disconnecting the HDD kit!

According the the service manual it all points to the Controller, but what makes no sense is what could have caused it??

Has anyone seen this before?

The controller is also in a stalled state (like SC-672) so cannot do memory clear or firmware flash

Static electricity,trapped wire, wrong/loose connection, could be anything.

trapped wire, wrong/loose connection > Highly doubt it as there are only 2 non swopable cables in the kit as it is a SATA drive kit
could be anything > having removed the kit after the code, seem like whatever happened was terminal as the code persists

Have a MP4002SP that's giving me a SC878 as well so guess I'll have to send controller for repairs.
Did you send your controller and was this the problem?
