    [Misc] Wasted toner C4502

    Scenario: C4502 in a real estate office w/ 30 agents. Yes this machine works hard. I've looked all thru everything Ricoh/Savin has documented/posted regarding toner & ck'ed all firmware issues. The issue is there is always at least a coffee cup full of toner left in the color cartridges when the machine declares "toner end". I see no SP's to address this. It is supposed to be a function of how long the toner pump is on & the process control. It does not "fail to recover". It simply declares no gunuine toner installed if you put the partial tube back in. No other issues at this time with this machine.

          Could it be a toner storage problem? This might be stupid as I've never seen this on Ricoh machines, but that was a problem on the newer Risographs a while back - the RFID chip in those Riso ink bottles recorded the the amount of time the ink pump operates, no matter if it is pumping ink or air, and at the end of its programmed life that ink bottle was no longer usable whether there is ink left or not. We had to tell people the specific way to store their ink a few years ago to avoid that problem and I've rarely encountered that problem since then.

              we have this problem in previous models, what we are doing is set(temporary) the toner detection to off.
              Nobody is perfect..

                  Set SP's 3101-013 to -016 to 5 grams. This changes the value at which the machine declares toner near end. Also switch off the "Independant Toner Set" message with SP5051.
                  It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                  Hit it.

                      Much obliged, At their volume its not a product life issue.

                      I'll explore changing the SP modes for amount added and turning off the prompt.

                          Just a follow up. Made the SP changes. The customer has a dozen color cartridges w/ about a cup of toner in each that can not be used because the chip on the bottle prevents it from adding. Has anyone explored a way to reset this chip so the rest of the toner can be used?

                              If you put them back in the machine it should try and use them, it would only show the "Independant Supplier Toner Set" message usually, but that's been switched off.

                                  When the partially used cartridge is reinserted the machine will no longer add toner from that cartridge. We get a complaint of bad color copies
                                  (lacking the color reinserted). This does not ageree with the service manual that says color copy will be inhibited.
