Got problems in winter with developing assy?

Meybe I'm doing something wrong or meybe customers I don't know...but I get about 3 calls per day saying "Machine won't load toner" I go there to find developing assembly gears eaten, broken, dislodged even.
Culd it be because of weather shifting...it's cold/dry one sec and worm/wet later...culd it be that developer can get slightly moist bcs of temperature changes???
It's usualy 2020,2022,1018...I'm starting to freak out here...my bigest problem is that we got shipment if some wierd gears...if I fit them in assembly it can't work...they make too mych pressure on each other that mag roller can't rewalve or it does but brakes one gear and developer leaks again.
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?

There's no way that this is an environmental issue -especially since you're referring to machines that have been around for several years. We would have had this discussion a long time ago in that case.
You've also never experienced this problem until recently. The only variable in this equation seems to be the supplier of what sounds like "aftermarket" gears.
Once upon a time, when I was rebuilding a few of the type 1027 PCU's, I bought several sets of gears from one particular supplier and every single set failed and jammed up the Dev unit within a few hundred, to a few thousand pages.

Indeed machines are longer on the market than I am in buisness...I just can't figure out why now in so meny cases.
Allso I forgot to mention it's the damned integral toner in machines...all exept one machine.
That one 2510 machine got brand new ricoh pcu and toner week ago...did about 1000 prints and dev leaked...I allmost had a stroke when I saw it.
I'll post later pic's of some wierd smudges I saw on drum...second time I see it on brand new ricoh pcu.

Are you sure that the toner bottle holder is not leaking? We replace these at 60k or so, they are shockers.

When you rebuild/replace the gears in these units, do you replace the dev as well? How much dev are you putting in, because in my experience these units cannot take a full pack of dev 28 AND then toner also! There is simply not enough space and the gears fail because of the load!

We used to rebuild PCU1027 by the handful and had that happen at a stage, until we found the tech who poured all the dev in! There should only be enough dev to let it circulate around the auger path without breaks in between, then you know you have it right!

I also know that the 1027 style gears are narrower than those used in the 1018/2018 style units and if you use then narrower ones there, it will work for a while before failing for sure!

we made modification on unit to be as the same in 5530/ axes/ gears.this modification done 1 time only.then unit must be replaced.thus yo check out plastic bearings in dev unit replace it's leaks developer and inside seals

you need to come wth more info..
              are the copies still black?
              whites white?
is it leaking toner or dev?
did you vacunm n clean interior including cleaning/discharge lamps?
if you spike the unit does it go away?
did you ck the toner hopper mylars anit for blockage?
              did you calibrate units?

Re: Got problems in winter with developing assy?

It is a known problem...I don't think the weather has anything to do with it. Replacing the gears is a temporary fix....developer will eventually work its way through or around the worn out bushings on the augers and fail the new gears. They do sell the lower development assembly with new gears that should take care of the problem for a couple hundred thousand copies.

                B0393170 - lower dev. unit
                B0393060 - Mag roller Gear 1
                B0393062 - Mag roller Gear 2

Don't forget to transfer over the TD sensor before dumping in the developer...unless you like a mess.

Re: Got problems in winter with developing assy?

It's gears definately,I just found it wery wierd to have so much machines with that same problem in one week.
I worked on Canon machines before Ricoh so I wasn't shure about how developer acts in some cases,I saw a pattern in there and figured why not asking around?
I heard and saw meny options about gears replacing, one tech told me to replace only one gear, the one connecting mag roller gears and mylar gear, other tech claimed that only katun set (with bronze or copper gear in set) can make it work, allso heard about not pooring all dev inside.
Indeed we got shipement of some "chineese" gears, plastic ones that don't even fit acordingly, what I figured out is that gear teeth are fat on those...makes more pressure on other gears.
Vargue so far I never saw dev leak thrue bearings, only saw it when gears fail, then one mylar keeps turning and driwes developer on that back side of pcu...it doesn't actualy leak that much thrue bushing in that case,as it is actualy pileing up on that side so much it owerflows to the chamber with gears.
I dissasemble pcu, remove developer, vacum residual developer from unit, clean bushings and mylar axis with alcohol, and put it back togather.
Fshead white is white, black is black...ok one machine had worn out developer giving me background,
It's leaking developer,in the back of pcu...that powder that makes my screwdriver get afro hair
                  Vacumed interior...I allways do
I'm not shure what's spiking the unit and calibrating...are you refering to forsed developer churning and tuning up the voltages?
Only problem is what gears are good to use cause theese are total mess.
Gears, springs, clutches, sliders, connectors and electronics...who on earth can tell what's wrong with it?
