    Ricoh Aficio 1018 dirty photocopies

    Hello all,

I have a used Ricoh Aficio 1018. This machine has been a workhorse for me with absolutely no issues. Recently I have had my copies come out with dark horizontal lines going from edge to edge. I thought it just needed a cleaning, so I cleaned (with water and clean rage only) those exposed parts I could get to.

I looking online, I see that it can be a few different issues. The copy count is 242,327 (as I said, it is a workhorse). I've attached a scan of a photocopied page. I've been reading that it could be the cleaning blade, the charging roller or the PCU??? needs to be replaced.

I do not live close to an urban area, and before I spend a fortune on a service call, I would like to have some idea of what I could be looking at for repair. Are there any suggestions as to what could be causing this issue? Thanks so much in advance...

      Hello

Looks like you need a new drum and cleaning blade...probably developer too. These items are rated for 60,000 copies. They are known to go beyond their rating but you cannot clean worn out parts. It is possible to install these yourself but certain procedures must be followed...thus a tech is the best choice. If these machines receive their proper maintenance they will go upwards of 500k - 700k copies.

My advice: clean the lens, replace OPC drum, cleaning blade, charge roller, cleaning brush and developer.BTW: this machine should be every 60,000 copies PM.

Thanks so much for your quick reply, it's really appreciated. When you say "developer" do you mean toner, or do you mean the developer roller assemby.

Developer is what mixes with the toner to give it its charge (simply put).

If you want to order your own parts and try fitting them yourself, you can use this PCU parts list. It also shows you where (but not how; albeit very simply) each part goes together.

Thanks so much you guys. I made my husband take apart the unit and clean it. This isn't the fix I was looking for, but it bought me some more time to get some money together to replace the entire unit itself...

I really appreciate all the help, we only had one little tiny spring left over, laff...

change the PCU and will be fine! 60000k says vendors have pulled on me and the bonnet and 80000k - 100000k

if you havent had the heater/fuser unit rebuilt in over 60k copies, you might want to check the teflon roller..
might be smart to change while you got a tech there, along with the fingers too...
