There's nothing special about handling the HDD's in a Ricoh copier. Just remove the HDD, perform the wipe to the required level as dictated by the customer policy, reinstall. If you want to be really anal about it you could format it manually once reinstalled but if it is simply a lease return I wouldn't bother. When the machine powers up with a blank (yes, the final pass being a zero-fill is nice) HDD it will format it anyway. Stamp data has to be reinstalled via SP, but I wouldn't worry about that.

I use Miray hard drive shredder. It's inexpensive and offers multiple levels of deletion.

Well I am going to test it at my location first then have one of myu field techs try it out at one of our offsites.

I might just consider buying generic drives in bulk and replacing with those.

So I Know this is a 4 year old topic, I am sorry to bump it, but I ran into the same issue and needed the parts manual. I can't believe people charge for what you can find free online. This type of this should be free for everybody. I found it at the following link, I know that it's in Spanish, but don't worry when you get the manual it's in English and is the official manual for the whole line of c2500 Ricohs. I needed it for c2550 and that is included in this manual, so instead of wasting $12 just go to this link and grab it for free, and if for some reason the link stops working, feel free to email me, and I will send it to you myself. Here is the link. Good Luck with the repair!

This site keeps adding their own tag onto the link so here it is inside quotes in case the link breaks because of the copytechnet addon

So are we affiliated with Just Manuals. Com? I just posted a link to the manual free to help other techs here, and it was taken down...

Very interesting, guess it's against the rules to give people a manual for free instead of advertising the manual for $12 (which is against the posted rules)

Just do a search on Google for c2550 Service Manual and it's the to third listing free of charge. Guess I am cutting into some kind of business arrangement between just manuals and copytechnet...

                Re: Ricoh Copier Hard Drives

I apologize If I offended anyone. Didn't realize Paul from Just Manuals had passed, so I am sorry for the lack of respect shown, and sorry if anyone was offended. I really was just posting here to help anyone else who came across the same issue as original poster and needed the manual. It is free through a google search and ended being incredibly easy to swap out drives, I used the manual to locate the correct panel (the rear panel in this instance) and the drive was right there, it was a quick swap out. But for techs like me who have never had to swap drives on these ancient printers, and had a client ask to handle it even though it is not within my normal set of responsibilities, this forum came up in my search and I just wanted to contribute where to find the manual free or charge, didn't mean to disrespect any body or hurt any feelings.

Good Luck out in the field everyone!

                Matt
