    MP C4500 copy quality

Hi everyone. I could use some help with this one. I installed this MPc4500 about a year ago and have had constant compliants about the copies and prints being light in the center. I can run my test sheet and see that a band about 4-5 inches wide in the center of the copy is lighter than the rest of the copy. It seems to be getting worse. They show me samples where the center of the copy or print is unreadable in the center. I have not had my test copies be that extreme so it must be inconsistant. Over the year I have exchanged the Transfer Unit, replaced the black pcu, replaced the black dev. unit, nothing has changed on my test copies. If I run a single color red or blue copy it is perfect. Only happens on black copies and prints. Today I am going to pull the laser unit and check the mirrors and lens to see if they are dirty but cant figure why it would be worse sometimes. This is giving me gray hairs, any ideas what I am missing? All supplies are OEM and well within thier copy counts. Thank you for any ideas.

You are on the right way to fix it...
Read bulletin first about laser shutter and firmware upgrade related to this problem.

Apart from checking the laser unit check the fuser exhaust fan and filters to make sure the fan is working if it isnt working or its half working due to blocked dusty filters it could be causing condensation to build up inside the machine affecting either the pcu or the laser unit that would also explain why its worse after a few copies If the copies are fine first thing when the machines switched on then i would defo go down the faulty fan route.

Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

Thank you for the responses, I did all the above except remove the shutter and the black copies are 100% better! I'm thinking I had two issues. Dirty something in the laser unit causing constant light copies and clogged fuser fan filter causing condensation sometimes in the machine for the intermittent really bad copy. Thanks again for the help
