rotation sensor gets knocked out of position after customer removes a jam - located inside machine (remove fuser) on operator side, basically look at the pulse disk on the op side of the fuser & match where it goes into the machine. I just had one of these last Friday & it was knocked out. There is also a TSB for sensor update.

Yeah, the sensors can be a bitch. Could also be the ferrite roller is on it's way out or the orange sponge roller has started to disintegrate and is stalling the fuser drive. How many has it done?
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

      Hit it.

thermal pile broken that sits above the fuser. Bit of a tricky job and a major strip down. Wise to always try the thermistors 1st , check contd: of the rollers.

if you can swap the complete fuser .

          good luck

SC549 is nothing to do with temperature or thermopile, it is fuser rotation. i second the sensors and sponge roller comment, also there was a tech bullitin for new type sensors, wider gap, also firmware update for sc549. also fuser bearings have been known to dry out and slow fuser drive on this model so always replace bearings with the rollers. ferrite core starts to get alot of play in it to as it ages and as previous comment mentioned, this should be checked as well.

Went back, sensors not knocked out of position.
              Cleaned position sensors.
              Fuser rollers turning very freely.
              next step try another fuser?

Check firmware versions as well, there is a previous update to the firmware for this problem although it has been updated again since for the J001 issue. i would fit a fuser pm kit as it has everything needed in there, unless you were fitting a printer version fuser and not over paying for it

Do the mod on the rotation sensor, you replace the 2 photo sensors (I think it's 2) and replace the half moon shaped bit on the fuser unit that goes through them. Caused me no end of bother at a customer ages ago that had everything else up to date ie firmware and new fuser unit.
