    cl7100 magenta speckling

    Hi.

    I have a CL7100 which for the most part has been trouble free! alhough now I have spotted that when printing a job of say over 30 pages - either single or duplex the printer starts to put random speckles of magenta on the print outs along with the leading edge of the paper having a magenta hue to them.

    Is there anything simple I can look out - I dont mind ripping the guts out the machine to have a bash at fixing it but we are lothe to spend any big money on it.

      Check the life on the magenta PCU and developer unit. More than likely, one of those is beginning to fail.

              Actually, you should just replace the magenta drum and developer if magenta is the only problem. Might need to run a bunch of prints afterwards before all the spilled magenta toner is depleted, though.
              Probably wouldn't hurt to have the yellow and cyan units available, too, as the color units do tend to wear out in unison.

                          Yeah, Thats what I thought to be honest. Its had a fair run but the price we paid just doesnt warrent spending any huge sums of money on it. It will be relegated to a back up printer for non important print jobs until it dies a death.
