If it's showing a misfeed, clean the sensor cups in the adf, the two with the black felt patches. They collect paper dust and cause misfeeding problems.

I just noticed this was not for a MP C3500, which is what I was referencing. Sorry

Your question is a bit unclear...
Are you saying that you can open and close the ADF and then place originals, and it works? But then the next time you use it it doesn't work again? Or that you can only make copies by placing your originals directly on the contact glass?

Did you also replace the technician? Haha j/k...

Print out smc report sp5990-4 and check for what jam code indicate in the original jam.

Make sure the ARDF/platen cover closed sensor is clean and undamaged. I've never seen that, but I've seen the actuator for that sensor get knocked out of position or damaged several times, causing the machine to not be able to determine if the ARDF was closed. But opening and closing the ARDF would sometimes knock the actuator back into position, allowing the original documents to feed.
Also, make sure you are using the correct ARDF for that machine. Many ARDFs look similar, but have very different internals.

Good morning if I understood there is a problem with the photocell feeder! Proper feed is the 3010! see the photocells at the base of the feeder (which is 2 cell)! Another case is the gear that drives the upper lid of the feeder ... (Meaning that we clean up all the photocell feeder ago): D
