c4501 yellow toner low

i have a ricoh c4501 that keeps saying yellow toner low.

have tried
new toners
toner end sensor
toner pump
removed hoses and cleaned out
the control board that the toner bottles come in contact with when u install the toner
new dv unit
updated firmware

i can run yellow sky shots while cheating the front door and see the toner bottle turning
i can run about 40 sky shots before it actually says toner empty. but can turn the copier off and remove the toner, turn back on and reinstall toner and itll say low again?????

if i disable the toner end sensors (obviously) it doesnt say low toner any more just show that all toners are full

bout to think that all that is left is the control board???

Um, I didn't see where you tried replacing the yellow PCU. So if you actually haven't done that, you probably should change the PCU before the control board. Maybe clean the ID sensors as well?

I thought the level on these toners was written to the RFID tag on the bottle itself. I have heard of a few early low warnings on both 01 and 02 series machines. Don't know if there is anything from Ricoh about it yet.

havent done the pcu yet. but dont see how that would cause a toner low condition (worth a try though) wasnt even recomended by ricoh tech support.

these use a toner end sensor that is just above the toner tube. i think the chip on the toner bottle just identifies the type and product code of the toner???

Have you used a brand new toner pump?We haven't change boards for this problem.

Print out an SMC and check the TD sensor output against the other colours. An Had you done anything to the machine prior to the message showing up?

checked all the yellow outputs and compared to other colors and the yellow does vary from the other colors (this was done while on ricoh tech support number)
that was when they told me it had to be the toner end sensor. which it wasnt. since the values were diffrent that is what led me to try a new dv unit, but no luck there either?

I had a c3501 with a constant low yellow toner also. AFter trying everything mentioned here, I did a reset with 3-045. It seem to fix the issue. It has been about 3 weeks now. Of course, now that I have cursed myself by posting this, they will call in today. When they do, I will 3-045 them again.

after talking with our regional ricoh rep, he said it was the nvram on the BICU pwb. fingers crossed will see. part should be in tomorrow

Out of interest, if you do a colour calibration and stop it before it prints to the page, what does the density look like on the ITB?

update!!! the nvram on the bicu fixed the problem. unfortunatly since the old nvram was corrupt we couldnt back it up first. so everthing had to be put back in maunally off the smc reports and the SN
