[Misc] Ricoh 3228C Fuser belt Crincled/ textured

    Hi,

Wondering If anybody out there could help me. We have had few fuser belts crinkle or textured then this causes the belt to throw up fuser error codes or the belt shifts to one side and subsequently tears. All these problems I think start with the fuser belt crinkle, The fusers when inspected look overall in reasonably good condition.

This has happened on few fuser belts cannot figure out what it could be. Any advice would be really, really appreciated. What makes it worse is the fact that these fusers are so expensive. Thanks in advance

Are you replacing all of the fuser PM parts or just the belt?

You gotta replace the whole shabang.... If the sponge roller starts to go soft, you're wasting your time replacing only the belt. Also, have a look at the thermistors. If they are caked up with toner or damaged they can kill the belt. But always replace the fuser bits as a set.

Thanks for the advice, we have not changed the belts on them, they look as if they were new fuser units when ever they were installed. Some still look in good condition although some do not.

I have noticed that on some fusers the one way bearing on the sponge (orange roller) turns both ways (which it should not) could this cause the problem. The other thing is that this problem really started when the winter set in, London can be cold in the winter. could this also cause the belt to wrinkle which may cause it to move. Thanks in advance

I've seen this in two cases, the first being somebody fitting a belt on its own and the second being when some spanner had fitted an oil roller where the tension roller should have been.

As for London being cold in the winter, stop being a soft, southern, lager-top-drinking girl. Even Newcastle isn't cold enough to give atmospheric anomalies like a belt creasing!

              Hi

Thanks for advise, just seems strange this problem started during winter, everything else looks ok. Problem is quite a few fusers have given this problem. What about the one way bearing turning both ways on the orange roller would that cause this problem. Thanks

Without looking at it I couldn't really give any sort of steer. You still need to service the fuser including all of the rollers though.

I've had this a few times as well. I believe the thermister comes apart and gives poor temperature comtrol so damaging the belt.
Check the thermister. It should not be separated at the contact end.

These are also replaced as part of the fuser rebuild service. If these units are serviced properly then they tend to run pretty well.

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Thermister part sounds interesting.
