    MPC5502: Adobe Illustrator printing slow

we have a new install- about a month in to it...I got a call today saying when they print EPS files and PDFs with Adobe Illustrator the copier(s) (they have 2 of them) print slow and sometimes not correct at all.

Looks like all the firmware is current.

Ethernet speed is set to auto select on a config page I printed out before we delivered them. I saw that mentioned as a possible fix on a different machine.

anyone run in to that type of thing with this machine?

    thanks for any ideas.

How big are the files? Are they flattened before sending to print or are they layered?

How's their implementation of Illustrator set up? It has been my experience if a machine prints properly from everything except from one program typically it is that program's printing preferences haven't been set properly, and adjusting the machine usually only makes things worse.

Does the machine have PostScript? For most Adobe software, or pretty much any graphics software, thiscan be a valuable accessory; and not just in terms of its cost!

they have the PostScript3 Unit Type C5502 options...

I'll check on those other things mentioned above in the other posts..previously they were using some Canon machines-don't know what the models were though.

A new PostScript driver for Windows was actually released Tuesday! Included in the change log is the following fix:

            - A portion of the printed matter could be omitted when printing EPS jobs.

A new driver never really hurts anyway...

This is not necessarily a driver issue, and it's highly unlikely to be a machine problem. (Although both are certainly possible.)

I would recommend having the customer check Adobe's knowledge base for the problem. People aren't shy about posting their problems on that site.

My experience has shown me that it is very likely that others have complained about the same thing.

Just may be some helpful tips and suggestions to be found there.

BTW... Uflattened EPS files can take forever to print. It is best to flatten them within the application first.

Agree with all, so many variables can affect the print speed. Looking through the Knowledge Base, one frequent suggestion is to make sure collate is turned off in the application and on in the driver. Also you stated that the mfp has postscript so I assume they're using the ps driver.
As stated above, they should flatten the image before printing. It does appear to be client sided and not machine, make sure they have the application updated with all patches.
Attached are a few docs from Troubleshooting Assistant that hopefully have something that might help. There are many more available, if you don't have access let us know with more specifics of what you may need.

Try looking up in Google "Turn off Pre-Flight" or something similar.

I have had this feature interfere with print jobs before and one of the biggest side-effects was slow print times.

The Pre-Flight option in Adobe products is similar to PostScript Passthrough where by the application RIP's as much of the print job as possible. Seeing as your machine has a PostScript kit in it, then the machine should be left to do what it needs to do without the computer and the application interfering.
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

...found and changed the PS output setting on the machine and set it and the driver to binary and EPS files are printing perfectly now. My art department is very happy with the results."

                      yay!
