printing pdf files on mac

Hello

We installed a RICOH MPC 2051 multifunctional with PostScript, but when sending print pdf files on Mac printing is blurry and distorted colors.


Any other file prints correctly,

Know any settings that should be made before sending pdf files?

any help is greatly appreciated.

What programme are you using to view and print the PDF from: Preview, Adobe Reader/Acrobat?

Not just that, but how were the pdf files created?

That can have just as much if not more to do with it than how they are output.

Questions:

-Is it a PowerPC or Intel based Mac?

-Do you have the correct Postscript driver on your Mac for that printer?

-If you "think" you have the correct version of Postscript driver for the printer, think again. Roll back one iteration of PS driver version and see how that works.

-Open the PDF natively in Adobe Acrobat reader, and do a Print function, Save as a PDF generated by the Mac OS X system natively and see how that prints.

-What is the DPI resolution of the PDF file?...if it's 72 DPI vs. 300 DPI, you're definitely going to get a more blurry and pixellated output!

As an added note, I recently came into possession of a Ricoh CL4000DN color printer. I thought I chose the correct print driver for my computer which is running Mac OS X 10.5.8 on a Quad G5--the last OS X iteration for the PowerPC platform. Well, I downloaded the PS driver for OS X 10.5--took FOREVER to output 1 page of a PDF document!....I rolled back one iteration of PS driver to the OS X 10.4 version and it worked perfectly!....Fast and beautiful output!

If he's running Acrobat 10 it has to be an Intel Mac.

Try running the software update to make sure the Mac is fully up to date and patched. Also check and make sure that Acrobat is patched as well. If both are fully patched, try re-saving the file as a PostScript file and open that to recreate the PDF.

Another thing to try is Disk Utility just to make sure that there's nothing wrong with disk itself.

i have color print from MAC on mpc 2551 without PS module.

1- click macosx/macosx | The Linux Foundation
2- install pxlmono-1.9.dmg
3- install Foomatic-RIP 4.0.6
4- install gplgs-8.71.dmg
5- install hpijs (support more than 2100 printers model)
6- add printer on mac HP Color LaserJet 8550 hpijs pcl3, 3.10.6.15 PXL-PCL 3 (instead mpc 2551 driver)

A3-A4 print working correctly.

While I'm glad this is working for one individual. please note that it is in no way shape or form something that can be supported.

I'd also be willing to bet that there are a ton of features that are missing, or that don't work correctly.

It's also a good bet that speed is hampered by this configuration, as well.

I have to agree with KenB: trying to print to Macs without PostScript using footmatic or Gutenprint drivers is never a good idea. Think of it like your car: if you need diesel fuel, you don't try putting gasoline in your tank and then try putting a bunch of additives in it to make it work: you give it what it needs to work as it should.

Besides, any organisation that can afford to pay the ridiculously high cost of Mac hardware can also afford to shell out for PostScript. The core BSD kernel of OS X uses PostScript as its native print method.
