Ricoh MP C5501 has SC 687 code

Have a Ricoh MP C5501 that gets a SC 687 code every 3K or so. Has the lastest firmware as of 4/21/13. reseat all controller and controller to BICU connections with no help. SM and Gooses Guide says to replace controller or BICU. Not sure which to replace. They're expensive. Anybody have any luck resolving this issue?

encountered this with mpc2551, try to reformat the HD.
