    Ricoh 2027 printing problem

Lately I have a machine that will not print jobs unless you turn the copier off and back on. It will work for a while and then do the same thing. They cannot wait until I get out there to see if i can ping the machine to see if it is dropping off the network. Hooked my laptop up to it and /t ping with no problem. Tried new hard drive and reload firmware. Any suggestions. Thanks

If they are using DHCP, you might have their IT staff verify the IP is reserved, so that nothing else picks up that IP.

Also, if they are having to reboot their server, the copier will need rebooted to re-establish a network connection.

Further more, I would run IPCONFIG on a few of the PC's to get an idea of the range they are placed in and reprogram the MFP outside of that range. In other words, if you find that the PC's are from 192.168.1.125 - 192.168.1.150, then I would put the MFP at say... 192.168.1.50

Other than that, you could possible have a faulty NIC card.

          Hello,

You could try to ping with '-t' behind to see if there are obstacles, maybe while you are moving the utp cable or the connector in the nic card. (not vissible in a short ping.)
We had have some problems with bad installed nic cards. therefor a possibility is re-installing the card, and make sure while mounting the screws to the frame, the card is well connected to the controller board. then try again.

          Good luck,
          Froota

you took the words out of my mouth, that is exactly what i was going to tell you.

turn off the device, ping it and if you still get a reply then you have an IP conflict. The weird thing is that Ricoh machines tell you if there is an IP conflict they even show you the MAC address of the other device using the same IP.

I had that problem once, right after I setup the MFP, someone else came to install a camera, guess what the guy used the same IP address.

It could also be a bad port on their switch. Link lights dont mean squat at times. IT will try to blame it on the machines nic but it only takes a minute to change to another switch port.

I've had a lot of problems in the past with customers using FAX Through Ethernet cables, and the IT Admin's claiming it's "the machine!" when it clearly isn't. Sometimes they're ok, other time's they can be pretty arrogant "Of course... not ALL of them."

As an IT tech I feel the same way about my network.
As a copy tech, I hate IT guys they are very arrogant, but I know alot of tricks to prove them wrong.

Did you ever get a resolution to the problem you were having? If not, check which driver your customer prints from. If they are using PCL6 try PCL5e. Some times with PCL6 if you send a big job to the printer, (documents from the web) it will stall and lock up the printer. If they are using PCL5e then try using RPCS and shift load to driver in the print configuration in printing preferances.

                          Good Luck
