Is the Touch Panel lit? If the Touch panel is black, there could be a problem with the Polygon Motor and the BICU. A bad connection on the Polygon Motor PWB can damage the BICU-Board, resulting in SC220. Can you print the Logging Data sheets? If the Touch Panel is working it could be a bad HDD.

Try to reseat all connectors on the BICU-Board. Maybe the machine is missing some kind of signal.

I would agree with this, although it probably needs replacment rather than just a formatting.
I know that usually the machine says "Please Wait" when the HDD goes, but I've encountered a few that just never came to the "Ready" condition, and HDD was the problem

In that case, just unplug the hdd and see what happens. Formating creates so much extra work and headache sometimes.

Have to agree with this. Before formatting, I will disconnect the HDD to verify it is the issue, otherwise why reformat?

Does the machine have a fax option and does that come up when you hit the fax key on the left side? If yes to both, if you put a piece of paper in the feeder and dial a number, do you get a green key for that?

I am trying to remember it, but I think I have seen a red key like that with no explanation. Trying to remember what the issue was. If I think of it and you don't have it figured out, I will post it.

I have had the same issue on an MPC6000. Everything displays correctly, but the "Ready" word does no appear and the start key has a red light. disconnecting the HDD allowed the machine to come to Ready. On reconnection of the HDD device worked correctly, just a bad connection. Certainly sounds like a HDD issue to me, as all ready stated on previous posts.
