MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
anyone found a way to eliminate these hokey front and rear pressure release levers or am I the only one seeing these snapped?
I guess the green lever was too easy
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
I believe the fuser from the mp2000 and/or the mp2500 will work in this model. Can someone else confirm? Been awhile since I worked on low volume but I did sub one of these for the times when users would break the pressure arms on the 2550.

I know the pressure releases can be a problem, luckily I haven't had to replace too many.
It's actually the AF 2027 /AF 3025 / MP 3010 fusers that are interchangeable with the MP2550/3350 etc. if you have any spares lying around
I have no idea why they made this ridiculous modification these new units
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
I only had two broken lever in my entire field (probably around 60-80 machines). The benefit that paper jams are way more easy to remove compared to the old design seems more important to me than avoiding this little failure rate (I also can bill to the customer).
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
I have customers with the exact same machines and they slam the duplex door shut after clearing a jam. When demonstrating to them how to shut the door, they stopped breaking the handles. They handles are flimsy but if you apply slow and constant pressure when closing the door, they will last longer.

We replace them with the 2027 fuser. The customer appreciates it also as I hear how easy the door is to close now. Horrible design.
You could demonstrate closing the duplex door with both hands at each end so that it closes level. Some are slamming it shut on one side which will make the door shut on a slant which catches the levers.

Yes, you could, but quite a few of mine are in hospitals and such where there is not one primary user, but a ton of different users on different shifts 24/7... it's easier for both us and the clients to just switch them out and no more broken parts to deal with.
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
We've printed off a high-vis red sticky labels saying "PLEASE PUSH HERE WHEN CLOSING SIDE DOOR!" and stick them at the center of the duplex unit Works pretty well so far! Much reduced levers damage, I'd say by at least 70% (with 200+ machines in the field - mostly police stations and hospitals). Cheers /Kris
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
Actually, we've had some luck showing people how to manually fold those levers in before closing the cover. Granted, it isn't a permanent fix, but it has worked more often than you'd expect. And it works on other models with similar fusing unit pressure levers that have broken in the same fashion as well.

Hi
Are you thinkig about of this? (Picture)
I solved this problem with a paperclip
This machine worked since half year with this solution 20130512_100356.jpg
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
I usually try to resolve this with training. Have to push in the middle where the 9 dots are on most machines and don't slam it. I have had a few broken; typically the 24 hour operations, but overall, it has not been too bad. I like the idea on the label and will see if can get some made up perhaps.

Yes you can use the older fusers from the previous model ,they work perfectly!
Also you can modify the original new fuser by ordering up the old type top metal plate, old type springs and arm levers , works a treat and stops the hassle !
Re: MP2550 customers breaking fuser pressure release lever
I had a National customer with a fleet of around 40 of these MP2550/3550 and I wound up advising them to make a document detailing how to correctly close the door to avoid breaking the pressure release levers.
They went the whole hog and did a colour doc with pics and taped it to the door of every machine in the fleet and I haven't been back for a broken lever call since.
I KNOW we fight an uphill battle trying to train customer to be gentle with the boxes but sometimes it actually works.

What about the top fusing cover? Does the original one fit after modification? Thanks
