    Image clarity

    Hi All,

Can anyone give me so e advise on how to improve a scanned image?

Using an MP2000 into Scanfile (V8). Some of the images aren't being recognised leading to a lot of manual indexing.

i'm wondering if its something to do with the settings on the scanner??

    Cheers,

    Sue

      Unfortunately not - sensitive documents.

You'll have to make sure the optics of the machine are clean. Maybe you can adjust the resolution settings. Without a sample it's quiet difficult to see what the problem is.

I agree with both of those solutions. If neither helps, it's a 3rd party software you're using, so you'll have to take it up with the manufacturer.

If you are referring to OCR, you might make sure that your original documents that need to be scanned are in good shape. Any defects on the originals that get scanned in will be treated as objects that the OCR program will try to convert to characters, and anything too light to get scanned in will cause the OCR program miss data which will lead to improper output.
Any adjustments to correct for original documents with defects will cause original documents that scan properly to have more errors.
As stated before, keeping the optics clean should help quite a bit.

The MP 2000, along with the rest of the 16-18 ppm families, has a wonderful habit of getting dirty optics. Check the mirrors for dust and debris, and look into adding the slit glass seal for the 35/45 series, B3516523. The left scale can also sometimes just be floating so make sure that the adhesive that keeps it sealed to the platen is in good shape.

Also, make sure that the scanner's resolution is set to at least 300 dpi and check to see if the orientation that the documents are scanned make any difference. There was an issue with the 2018/2020 series fax modules where transmitting LEF originals would overflow the memory of the device. The workaround, other than ordering a new fax controller was to scan for faxing SEF. The 2000 is a slightly more powerful machine, but it's worth a shot to see if scanning that way makes a difference. Just be sure to change the orientation priority while testing, otherwise all of your scans will be rotated.

We are not asking you to send us scans of your sensitive documents - help us help you!

Can you not just scan something that isn't sensitive in order to provide a sample? Even just taking a piece of paper and writing "test" on it would at least allow us to judge the general scan quality from the machine.

These things in my experience are prone to dirty optics, if you are getting lines on copies but not on prints then I'd it's a definite that these are in need of a clean.
