MP 2550 empty tray signal at slightest touch

Ok so I am just wondering before i order parts we have never carried before. On the Ld425 or MP 2550 model I have one that for some reason if you just barely touch the tray cover the empty tray warning comes on and you here the lift motor relift paper. I checked the back of the machine and see the Push switch (G020 5626) on both trays if you just touch them with your finger without hardly moving them they lift motors kick in as if the tray isnt pushed in.

First i tried on the back of the tray the little nub that hits this switch i stuck a screw in it to give it a little more pressure but it didnt do anything. Just curious anyone have these push switches go out on you before. I know this is the model with the flag sensor in the back that falls out I have super glued those in place, ive never had the push switches fail, only time ive replaced them is on bridge units.

Thought maybe i would check if this is common or if there is some other wierd cause. Also if i pull tray one out tray 2 reads empty even though i havent moved it.

Could potentially be a couple of things. First, make sure the tray latch is in good shape and the drawer is not just popping loose.

You could also have a issue with the tray lift motor. It is a sealed unit (as in 1 part number for the whole thing) and contains the motor and some gears inside. You can remove this from the machine (could of screws in the back) and then pop the cover off to look at the gears. You would be checking to see if any of them are chipped or broken. If they are, order the lift motor.

Also check the drawer where the paper sits. Lift the plate up that lifts the paper and check the mechanism that raises the larger plate. I have seen that get twisted and cause issues as well. You should be able to straighten that out by reforming it, etc.

Hope this helps and good luck.

A personal favourite on these machines is the sensor at the rear of the machine that has a habit of falling out of its bracket.
I've had it on most of the machines in my patch....

Hope this helps, glue that sucker in place.....

I wanted to reply to this cause i figured it out, i knew the one sensor fell out those i had already glued in. The actual problem was the push switches I didnt have to replace them, i took them out and pryed them apart and cleaned the insides with alcohol, the likely cause was the prongs that the connector plugs into had black gunk guessing maybe contact grease which was all crappy so i just cleaned it all real good and put them back in and now they work fine. First time i have had issues with the push switches on this model.

It used to happen quite often in older versions. Good to know that it's worth to keep an eye on the new ones too.

For contact cleaning there's no better solution than german "Kontakt 60" spray, manufactured by Kontakt Chemie. Not too sure if available in US.
