    Aficio MP5001 - SC670

Hey guys, I did something that I'll probably live to regret....
I got a call on a referral, from a customer with one of these machines that had gone into SC670 code (seemingly in conjunction with some thunderstorms we've had).
Long story short, the solution that I came up with, was to borrow a controller and a BICU from one of my suppliers just to isolate the problem.
I popped in the BICU, and the machine booted right up, and everything worked fine. We decided that he would deal with Hytec to get the board repaired /replaced. I've never dealt with them personally, but I've heard good things about them around this site. He just called me to say he installed the replacement board, and the same error has come back. For now, I've suggested that he double-check all of his connections, and to let me know if anything changes. I'm waiting to hear back, so I thought I'd post my situation to see if there are any ideas as to what else could cause my board to work, and not the other one?
ALSO, has anyone had experiences where the "repaired" Hytec Board has not worked properly?

    I appreciate any advice.

I have received only one defective board from over 6 years, and I used them for the majority of my replacements. Your customer should call and get assistance from their tech support.

I use Nationwide repair Service (NWRS) out of Kansas City. Just as good as Hytec but closer for reduced shipping costs. They do tech support as well and they live test all boards before they ship out.

Does the machine give sc 670 with the hard drive disconnected??

Yes SC670 even W/O the HDD. I tried disconnecting all the peripherals too.
First I tried it with another controller with no change, then, like I said, I put in a known working BICU and it flashed right up
He then exchanged his board, re-installed it himself, and got the SC670 again.
It's kind of a twisted situation that I've created for myself. I'm going to go in on Monday and have a look myself to make sure he's got all the connections made, and then maybe try his "new" board in a known working machine to see what happens.

Thanks, But again, it worked fine with the other BICU I installed, so it doesn't seem to be the case, and nothing in the manual about swapping chips.

If this board is baked from a lightning strike I think it's pretty much cooked unless you replace every component on it or completely re-flow the board. I don't think it'll be reliable again.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                  Hit it.

Just to update and close out the thread.
When I went to visit the client today to inspect the board that the they received back from Hytec, and had attempted to install themselves, it turned out that there simply was no EEPROM installed on it (makes sense). I neglected to consider that possibility. OOPS!
Thankfully they had not shipped their own defect board back yet. I Installed the original EEPROM, and it's all good again.
I appreciate all your feedback in advance of my visit.
